Those darn Boarding School brands...

Hey, I'm applying to boarding school this year, and I would like to know what clothing brands are okay to wear. I'm sorry I'm starting ANOTHER fashion thread, but I want to make a kind of personal plea here. Ha Ha. I'm applying to; Hotchkiss, Taft, Kent, Miss Porter's, Thacher, Stevenson, and St. Georges, so I'm kind of looking for fashion tips for those schools. Even if you don't go to any of those places, I'd still love to hear a reply.

P.S. I'm in eighth grade right now, so I kind of need this info pretty fast.

Thanks!!!

I hear most girls are wearing dresses that cover their entire body except for their head

It really depends what kind of school your going to. Do they have pictures on their website? Do you know people from that school? Could you look on facebook?

Some private school kids like to show off their wealth and dress in high class brands. Others wear brands such as A&F, Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Hollister, Pac Sun, and Pink. But then get expensive accessories (backpacks, purses, jewelry, shoes). It depends on what school your going to and the area you live in.

Lots of people wear J. Crew, Madewell, Anthropologie, etc.

Idk where you’re from, but you should definitely have a good fall/early spring pullover-ish thing [check out north face and patagonia] or a coat [check out barbour] and a winter jacket. Also have rain boots [lots of people wear Hunters, and I love my bright turquoise pair!] and winter boots [many have L.L. Bean boots]. You could also look into perhaps a pair of leather boots [riding-style] or some uggs. A good rain jacket is a must, you’ll need it!

Um… lots of people wear Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, whatever. Other than the weather considerations, all of this is certainly just based on trends though. Seriously, wear whatever you want!

Except for Hollister and A&f and like brands.*Hardly anyone wears those [at least not the items with brand names plastered across the front].

^^^ Interesting. I heard most girls are wearing dresses that cover their entire body including their head

Oh COME ON! Treat the noob nice, why don’t ya! You realize that living overseas doesn’t mean I am totally shut off from the world, I just meant that I am not totally current with things. I at least know that total body dresses are so NOT.

By the way, to the nice repliers, I am looking at maybe 2 schools with a jeans allowed code, but the others are Hotchkiss, Taft, Ms Porter’s, and St. Georges. Those are the schools I’m really looking for fashion tips for. Thanks!

Sorry, the schools mentioned above have more of a skirts or slacks code. Most are also in New England, but no more north than Rhode Island. Thanks also for addressing Bean boots, I was wondering about those!

agree with above-Hunter Boots, Sperry’s etc.

@WorldlyGirl,

No, the kids do NOT all wear Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, expensive bags, etc. The top boarding schools actually discourage kids from flaunting expensive clothes-- this was supported by our own observations during our campus visits.
