Those "FEW" B's...Ugh.

Okay, so this is a strange question.
Does anyone have any idea which stands out more in an admissions officer's mind.

Is it the GPA, or those few B's you got.

I have an unweighted GPA of 4.05

But I have gotten 3 B+'s and 1 B. (over two semesters)
Very difficult teachers for 2 AP Classes.

I know kids who get into Harvard, etc take AP's and get A's.

I'm also in the top 10 percent for unweighted GPA, possibly top 5 percent but our school refuses to tell us.

But how much will this affect me? I mean I took alot of AP's this year (7), and it was only two of them that I had those grades in. And not to mention, I go to a college Prep school, where AP's are not that easy at all. I have taken the most rigorous courseload out of any student in our school's history. (according to my guidance counsellor). So my unweighted GPA, although our school doesn't calculuate them is probably quite high. Not to mention every other class I've taken is honors or advanced honors.

But my question really is, is a 4.05 unweighted still impressive although I've had the few B's?

Or does every kid who gets into HYPSM really never have a B, or B+ for that matter?

you are fine.

Horribly misinformed.

I don't know if Dartmouth is below your standards, but I had several 5+s and 6-s (on a scale of 1 to 7, so that'd be a B or B+), and they evidently didn't care. I was in the IB Diploma program at a rigorous private school, and I was not a legacy, athlete, or minority.

^^^I'm sorry, I don't really understand what you mean by 5+'s and 6-'s...Do you mean 5 B+'s and 6 B-'s??

Stop complaining about getting B's. So many people complain about getting a single B and how it will ruin your chances at a top college. Normal people get B's and the colleges understand that. I got plenty of B's, finished with a 91 avg (unweighted) and got into every school i applied to, save 2, on a list that included ivys

Scared4college, my high school graded on a scale from 1 to 7.

7 = A+
6 = A-
5 = B
4 = C

So a grade of 5+ or 6- would be roughly equivalent to a high B, and I had a few of those.

is your hs gpa on a 4.0 scale? if it is, then how is it possible to have 4.05 UW?

oh and...."So my unweighted GPA, although our school doesn't calculuate them is probably quite high." how do you know that its a 4.05 then?

4.33 for A+, 4.0 for A, 3.66 for A-

oh...my school is only 4.0 for any A, 3.0 for any B, etc. well it doesn't matter because the colleges just compare you to others in your school

I go to a pretty decent public high school (not top or anything) and our val from last year got a few Bs and she got into Yale. A few Bs won't matter AT ALL.

when you guys are talking about B's are you talking about the B as semester grade or as a yearly grade.
