how did you determined who got which bed?
was it just first come = first pick?

yeah..

how did you determined who got which bed?

yeah..

I had the same question! I was thinking of rotating every quarter so at least it seemed fair.

first come basis or discuss among the 2/3 of you online or on the phone prior to move-in.

Probably not a good idea since you’ll most likely have all your possessions closest to your bed already. Once you’re settled in (with your desk, clothes, things under your bed), you’re probably not going to want to shift around every quarter.

Naked sumo wrestling to the death, of course.

+1 - wherever you end up is where you’re staying the whole year. And I did first come first serve my first year. After that you usually know your roommates and can talk about who gets which bed.

my roommates and i talked about it before hand and agreed on the arrangement, i think that would be the best option simply because we all agreed… the biggest problem with first come first serve is that the first person will no doubt take the best options (bottom bed and desk next to it, which makes it a pain to get on the bed for the person on top bunk) while what we agreed was that bottom bed gets the desk under the loft thats a little inconvenient for the others as he gets the best bed location… just an example that would keep a better relationship between roommates and its pretty fair as no one will end up with the 2 worst while someone end up with both of the best

key to good roommate relationship: sharing is caring :)

this may seem like a stupid question, but why do most people consider the bottom bed the ‘best’?

I wonder about that too! I like the loft with the desk under it but a lot of people seem to like the bottom bunk.

I thought it was because of fear of falling from the top bunks, but I at orientation I saw each bunk had railings. I still chose the bottom though because I’m always paranoid I wont get enough head clearance when using the top bunk.

ease of access of course

bottom bunk is easier to get onto/out of

After a long day of classes and clubs, it’s a great feeling to just plop on your bed and lay there :)

Yes the bottom bunk is definitely the most convenient for access, but you have to also consider that the bottom bunk is also the default “couch” for any visitors to your room, etc. But I agree that whoever gets the bottom bunk should take the desk/dresser under the lofted bed, and the two upper bunk people get the desks by the windows and the closets by the door.
