i'm applying ED next year! if you applied and got in (esp. those who applied ED), what was your GPA and SATs/ACT?

ACT: 30
GPA: 90 (not sure how that translates, my D’s school doesn’t weight or use the traditional GPA)
SAT II: French (700ish) Lit (700ish)

Remember, W&M is more than numbers. While you will have an advantage applying ED, make sure that your application is unique and that your passion is obvious.

I agree with terig. From what I’ve seen, William and Mary strives to pick individuals, not numbers. My SAT scores, GPA, and class rank were all very good, but I saw people with much better scores get waitlisted or denied. Then how did I get in? I spent a lot of time on my optional supplement (when I visited last summer they said it really isn’t optional if you want to get in). I submitted something I made instead of writing another essay, and put a lot of creativity into it. Everything about it symbolized or represented something about me. I think you will find that many other people feel their supplement or essay got them into William and Mary as well.

SAT: 2080 superscored (1410 CR+M)
GPA: 100.75/100 (Weighted)
Class Rank: 15/524

Good luck as you start your application process!

OOS Female, International - Regular Decision

SAT: 1460/2240
SAT II: Biology:680 English: 730
GPA: Would not make sense if I gave it to you. But I was top 10% in my class.

I had a decent amount of ECs for my country and school, but nothing that would blow your mind. I’m a good writer (if only because I like to write and practice often), and spent a lot of time on my essays. Being trilingual was probably also a bonus. I think that the admissions officers also understood that W&M was genuinely good fit: I’m the geeky, bookworm type.

Good luck to all those that apply next year! :D

D is OOS female; applied and accepted ED

3.96 GPA uw, 4.1 w
SAT 1460/2210 superscored
SAT II’s: Lit 740; US History 780
ACT 32

Strong EC’s

Also, don’t forget, if possible, to do the optional, but evaluative, interview over the summer. Don’t know if that helped my d, but I don’t think it hurt!

Best of luck to you!

Remember, do not always rely on the stats of others. W&M considers a slew of non-objective/quantifiable factors such as essays, extracurricular activities, recommendations, interviews, and background information. Objective criteria are also important but not the entire story. Please feel free to contact W&M Admission ([William & Mary - Undergraduate Admission](Undergraduate Admission | William & Mary) or 757-221-4223) to get more information on our application process.

OOS female, RD

3.76
1510/2240
760 Chem, 740 USH
a few AP tests (scores ranging from 3 to 5)
a bunch of ECs I love but there isn’t one I really am most strongly committed to or love most

I don’t really know what “got” me in. But I’d agree with others that the way that you present your personality is important. I tried to show myself as a smart, hard-working student who also knows how to have fun in odd ways and give back to my community, and I think I pulled it off.

transfering from Cornell (dean’s list). white male from VT.

second in my class in high school out of about 250

SATs: 700 CR, 780 M, 720 W: 2200 total (took in one try)
SAT 2s: 770 USH, 800 Math II

APs:
5’s on stats, calc AB, chem, bio, and USH
3 on Gov (yeah, yeah, I know. Terrible teacher. Absolutely awful).

I decided near the end of 10th grade after visiting that this was the college I wanted to attend. Fortunately I had done very well in 9th and 10th grade so I didn’t have to start pulling my grades up. My SATs were not great by W&M standards…near the low end of the middle 50 percentile but still in the range. My grades were great and I took 9 APs with average score over 4. But I think what got me in was my optional essay. I focused on something about me that the admission committee would never have known by reading my application only. It showed how I am different from other middle class, suburban students.

Asian OOS MD Male accepted off waitinglist

4.08 GPA Rank 4 in class
1450/2160 Superscored

Also really strong recommendations and my counselor is a W&M alum
