<p>did anyone get in whose stats are decent but not off the charts?...care to post?</p>
<p>Peachiepizzazz, don't be discouraged by the numbers you read here. Many people find CC when they google National Merit in their junior year. There is a selection bias. There is a small sample as well, the numbers of which are prejudiced toward whoever posted first. If people with high scores post first I think others with lower scores may not post, and if lower scores are posted first those with higher scores may not post. The average SAT is about 2085 with writing being the highest. This may reflect a true selection bias either on the part of the type of student who applies or the people reading the applications.
That being said, there is a large number of applicants, the baby boom echo, going through now, so stats may be higher over the last few years. In addition there is an increased awareness of single-gender education in terms of educational effectiveness, which will also increase the number of applicants</p>

<p>"and THE MOST IMPORTANT "WHY BARNARD?" ESSAY WITH A HUGE TYPO IN THE VERY FIRST SENTENCE." </p>
<p>haha my WHY BARNARD essay had a typo in the last sentence! awesome.</p>
<p>"haha my WHY BARNARD essay had a typo in the last sentence! awesome."
That makes three of us, then. Hahaha...</p>
<p>c/p-ing this from an old thread.</p>
<p>Stats:
* SAT: 730M / 780CR / 790W
* SAT II: 750 Lit / 770 US History
* ACT: n/a
* GPA: 98.99W...school doesn't do UW, believe it or not.
* Rank: 2/118
* Other Tests: 5 on English Lang/Comp, English Lit/Comp, and US History</p>
<p>Subjective
* Essays: Why Barnard -- had a missing word at the end; Common App -- about standing with my boyfriend on the steps of a museum, I'm a sap
* Teacher Recs: Math was filled with plastic enthusiasm, but my history teacher...it was lovely. I love her and she loves me back.
* Counselor Rec: No idea, but it was probably pretty good and nicely personalized since she used to provide me with "lunchtime sessions" in elementary school. Let's just say I had Harriet the Spy syndrome.
* Supplementary Material: Nada.
* Hook: I'm a normal white kid with no outstanding ECs. No hook. I swear it.</p>
<p>Personal
* Location: Upstate New York. It's quite rural around here.
* High School Type: Public
* Ethnicity: Half Filipina, half random amalgamation of West Europeans, but I didn't specify.
* Gender: Female
* Applied for Financial Aid: Da</p>
<p>Other
* Extracurriculars: Nothing special -- band, jazz band, personal webdesign. Oh, and I play acoustic guitar and put the covers on YouTube. ALSO: I resigned from NHS in January, and my counselor informed all the schools I applied to of this change in the Midyear Report, so don't ever let anybody tell you to stay in a club just because quitting will make you look bad to colleges.
* Awards: National Merit Finalist, uh...departmental awards for highest average in _____, a couple Science Olympiad regional medals. Nothing earth-shattering.</p>
<p>I haven't heard from Barnard yet, but some other schools use this template, and I thought it might be good here too. Haha all of your stats are making me nervous!</p>

[<em>] GPA: 3.62 UW, don't weight
[</em>] Rank: Don't rank
[<em>] Other stats: AP US: 4, AP English Lit: 5
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[</em>] Essays: Common App essay was really, really good (if I do say so myself), and my Barnard essays were good EXCEPT the daily ritual/tradition one. I ended up saying that I couldn't come up with anything, and that I didn't want to make something up, and that I was sorry. And I GOT IN, so, as some people have said, you do not need to be perfect! :-D
[<em>] Teacher Recs: I know one was great (one of best three writers in her career), and my other teacher told me that my schools should all take me with open arms after reading what he'd written, so...
[</em>] Counselor Rec: I assume it was good, I never read it.
[<em>] Hook (if any): Good ECs, I think: president of MUN, editor-in-chief of literary magazine (LOTS of writing, including a novel last summer; I sent a short excerpt), and a lot of photography (fine art and for the school paper). (Film Studies is my intended major.)
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[</em>] State or Country: Suburban MA
[<em>] School Type: Very competitive public
[</em>] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[li] Gender: Female (needless to say)[/li][/ul]Other Factors: I also attached a controversial (I know, I know) editorial I wrote for my school's newspaper about some grossly inappropriate, school-sanctioned demonstrations on Halloween (we have this Senior Dress-Up Day thing; it's a long and fairly boring story), and ANYWAY it talked a lot about women's rights and feminisim, which I think probably helped, especially since I know my counselor talked about it in her rec.
General Comments: I AM SO EXCITED. I was deferred ED from Columbia and Barnard is definitely my second choice -- and frankly, if I don't get into Columbia (which is very likely), I will be THRILLED to attend Barnard. I'd also consider Wesleyan if I got in, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to go to Barnard, and I could not be more happy about it. I'm so excited to (probably) meet all of you incredible people!</p>
<p>dont be too sure of your stats guys.</p>
