I just took a practice exam for the English section out of PR's book (Exam 2, btw). I got a 34 because
I "missed" two, but I think one of the two that I missed is very questionable.

70 (I'll do parentheses instead of underlining):

"I nodded, but with one group needing its check, another demanding (about) its nachos, and a third complaining that the vegetarian tacos had beef in them, I didn't have time to lavish attention on anyone."

F. No Change
G. of
H. for
J. OMIT the underlined portion.

I said "for". However, the answers say, "The correct idiom is to 'demand something,' not to demand about, of, or for something.

I mean, I understand why it's "wrong", but my thought process was, "You can't DEMAND nachos." That was a bad question, IMO, but oh well. If one like that shows up on the real ACT, I'll remember it.

But, on a brighter note, I went from a 31 to a 34 from the first English exam to the second English exam!

No, I don't think it's a bad question. You just need to know the idioms, so actually, it was a good question because it taught you one you didn't know before. That would actually be cool if you got a similar question on your real ACT!

And nice improvement from the 31 to the 34!

i did that same practice test today and got a 30, i missed 8. I also got that question wrong, and the explantion in the back of the book also cleared that question up for me.

I'm so inconsistent w/ that. First ACT that I took in Feb I got a 28, then a 23 in April, and a 25 today on the practice test.

LOL. WTH?!

I'm changing up my strategy. I have been just reading a question and searching for answers...but now I'm going to try and read and answer questions. I'm reading all these tips and stuff everywhere and hopefully when I try it tomorrow I'll raise my score to a 28+, and I'll consistently get that.

All of the initial stuff (12.1 through 12.5) consists of tips and everything. You'll then get to some practice passages/questions and good feedback is given.

The first passage I did (prose fiction), I missed 2 or 3. The second passage I did (social science), I didn't miss one.

I'm now reading first (and reading the entire passage in about 3 1/2 minutes...probably 4 for Prose Fiction), and then answering questions which is so much easier. I'll probably have extra time. It's incredibly easy now.

I honestly think I'll have both English & Reading at a 33/34+ consistently. I'll still suck at Math (I'm hoping for a 25+, LOL), but I think I can improve my science dramatically.

I may surprise myself and get a 30 on this ACT.

i noticed some of them, PR has many errors through out its book. In the first math practice test there is not a # 21. I am referring to the 2007 PR book.
