Thought final was tomorrow, when it was really yesterday..

I just realized my final was yesterday when I've thought for 2 weeks it was tomorrow. I emailed my professor, obviously, in hopes of being able to makeup the final or do something about it. It's worth 30% of my grade..so right now I have around a 63 with a 0 on the final. I was just wondering if anyone else has been in the same situation? Any advice/thoughts would be helpful too, unless you're just going to tell me I'm an idiot. I know that already.

Does your professor have office hours? I think I would do more than email at this point.

Also get in touch with the student services people for your college....

Yeah, my professor's office hours are only Monday and Friday, but I plan to go to his office as well as the other professor for the courses' office tomorrow morning, just hoping that he's there and I can talk to him.

By student services, do you mean like the Counseling and Advising office? I was planning to go there tomorrow morning too if I can't find my professor.

Go there regardless. It would also help to inform a professor in the department that you may have a good relationship with who could vouch for your integrity. Unfortunately, these types of things often don't work out too well for the student.

make sure that when you set out on this quest, you are prepared to sit for the exam if you find the right people. the one story (it's like 3rd hand at this point) of a person at Cornell mixing up a final date like this has the person being able to take the exam right then and there, after she explained her situation.

good luck for real.

CayugaRed2005: It sounds like you know of some specific instances where something like this happened - could you elaborate? Thanks.

faustarp: Yeah..I think that would be the best case scenario for me. I've still been studying, but the problem is that the final and the solutions are actually on the website right now, which is how I found out that the test was yesterday..Even though I haven't looked at the test or the solutions yet, I don't know if the professor would trust me enough for that.

Which course is this for?

once I remembered I had an exam an hour after it had ended. I went to the prof right away, and took it right then, no problem

are you a freshman? maybe they will pity you?

It depends on what class you missed. I've actually missed two finals in my 4 years here and both times, because the classes were small and I had good relations with the professors, they just laughed it off and let me take it at a later date. However, I have had friends who missed finals or were just late to a final at a large lecture and had to take a 0 or a big penalty.

The best way is to contact your professor in person, explain the situation, and hope that he's understanding. Emailing is not sufficient, if he wasn't there when you tried his office, try phoning him.

I had friends who slept through prelims, at the dorm , and so unexcused ab.

I was 1/2 hr late to a final one day. Exam was supposed to be 60 minutes but I finished it in 30

howd it go?

Best of luck.....
