@TomSrOfBoston Actually it is…“Jesus is the Son of God” would qualify Christianity as a religion. In your logic Catholic is not a religion either, rather a holding company for specific orders.
Folks—I’ve been guilty of this on this thread recently, too, but just noting that if this veers into a question of what counts as or does not count as a particular religion, this thread will be shut down posthaste.
@TurnerT a holding company! lol!
It all comes down to whether the applicant would feel comfortable at any of these schools. Check it out, see if it is a good fit, but don’t expect to change the culture once you are there.
Most students would feel comfortable as most of these so called Catholic schools are Catholic just in name.
The schools are not “Catholic just in name”, they have distinctive characteristics that make them Catholic - disparagingthese characteristics isn’t fair to them or to applicants. However, I agree that many students would feel comfortable, especially if they believe in a god or are Christian, not just Catholic - and if it is not a good fit, then there’s no reason to apply, but they’re worth a visit.
…and…
Yes. To both. So let’s all say it together, shall we?
It depends on which Catholic school you’re talking about.
You’re welcome.
No, dfbdfb, I do not agree that any catholic schools are catholic in name only. All have a catholic mission, catholic administration. How each school conducts the mission is up to the school.
The only ‘catholic in name only’ is Marist, which has a catholic name but is no longer a catholic school.
My daughter would not consider any catholic college for many reasons including the fact that she is a nursing student with an interest in end of life and other issues where she does not feel she would be properly prepared by a Catholic institution.
She should go with HER feelings. I don’t agree with her reasoning, but it is how she feels that matters.
@maya53 I guess you mean euthanasia?
and St John Fisher college which is now in ‘the Catholic tradition’ but no longer affiliated with a Catholic body.
(Plus: not sure why someone would want to attend St John Fisher… Umass Dartmouth/Lowell will be better and cheaper for that level of schools).
@TurnerT. I mean no feeding tubes, hospice,etc. We had a horrible fight with a Catholic health care faculty over an elderly relative whose end of life wishes were not respscted.
@maya54 not sure I understand…
…and Holy Cross!
