I'm planning my schedule, and my mom recommended that i schedule all my courses to be on mon,wed and Friday, and use the other days to work. Is this a better plan than going of school everyday from 8-12 and then working and studying? Or is it worse.? Any thoughts or opinions...?

I need to work part time in order to pay off my tuition, but I don't have a job yet, would this schedule scare away employers? (Thinking I'm too unavailable/unflexible?)

I spent freshman year with all my courses Tue and Thu and although they were long days I’m glad I did, especially since I commute. For this year, I scheduled them all Mon, Wed, Fri (couldn’t get a course I wanted Tue and Thu). I will be working Tue and Thu.

I really enjoy having more class-free days to plan my homework and assignments. Some I even had to plan for “field trips” to museums and concerts, making it even more convenient to have fewer class days. I’m going to miss the long weekends I had last year, since I like to go on trips.

I did the same thing my first semester (TTh classes only). Since then I’ve done two half days and two full days a week, working the fifth day all day and the two half days.
Alternatively, find a job near home or campus where you can work a few hours each day around classes and/or weekends.

If you’re working where they expect college students, they’ll probably be fine with your schedule. Just try to schedule your classes in blocks (all morning/afternoon instead of one each at 9am/noon/4pm).
Lastly, there might be some classes you need to take that only are offered at one or two times. Try to create your schedule around those, then your work schedule around that.

I didn’t pick classes with the goal of having them all in 2 days or 3 days, but I think I had 2 semesters where that was the case and 2 semesters where I had only one night class the other days. I prefer it that way, but I would recommend you take the classes you want to take, not pick classes because the fit this schedule.

It’s really just a matter of personal preference. I have only 3 days of classes this upcoming semester, just because I’m taking mostly science courses that meet on Mon, Wed, and Fri. Those three days are going to be ridiculously jam-packed with class, but I’m really happy about not having class on the days in between.

You mentioned working, so it sounds like you’ll be putting those off days to good use. One of my roommates last year had two days off, but would just use those days to sleep in until 3 in the afternoon

I don’t think that schedule will scare away employers if they are located in a college town. They understand that college students have classes that they need to attend.

You shouldn’t have any problem finding a job. Most employers understand that school comes before work and will work around you class schedule, especially if you’re only working part time. Plus, you’ll have more availability than most college students! I also worked while in college (had classes Mon-Thurs ~8am-2pm ish) and had no problem finding work and scheduling. I generally worked evening/nights and weekends!
