Thoughts about life AFTER film school?

I'm curious about what you want to get out of film school education? What is your vision of life after film school. For many, it's a life without a steady job. For some careers, you are not usually an "employee," but if you are successful, it's a year-end collection of 1099's. Or perhaps you have another, unique vision of what you'll be doing career-wise. What do you envision for yourself?

I’m majoring in television, not film, but it’s a similar battle. Of course, if I choose to I could just stick with one small market station or news station and work my way up, but I plan to move around some in jobs and just do whatever I can find. I’m sure my first job will probably be some kind of assistant job, or part-time job. Maybe even freelancing. I’ll just have to see :)

TV is different from film jobs in that you are more likely to be employed in a full-time job. What area are you majoring in? Production? Management?

This spring I graduate with a B.A. in Multimedia with a concentration in Video Production. Plan to go to a top graduate film school. Plan to Enter film festivals while in graduate school to gain recognition and also find a job or paying internship at a production company (focus features, Samuel Goldwyn, IFC, dream works, warner bros, THINKfilm) , learn the ropes, and start my own business after a few years.

I think if my emphasis is something technical like editing or cinematography, I won’t have an issue finding a job. For instance, local news stations are always looking for editors. Editors get paid well and universities are always hiring tech savvy grads.
