thoughts about skipping the 'college experience' ?

Hi there,

I did a previous thread about paying for college and FAFSA for adults like myself. I got a 2 year AA degree and I thought about going back to college to finish the last 2 years - take in that ‘proper’ college experience feel. engage with students, lecturers and research. but after doing all the calculation, i realized the cost is just too much for myself with no support.

I’m seriously considering finishing up my last 2 years via an online degree program from a state university. eg, Florida State University has an online degree in Computer Science.

While doing it online, I’ll just find a full time job.

Thoughts ?

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

I think it’s fine if it’s what you want to do, as long as it’s an accredited program and you’re comfortable in the virtual learning format. Best wishes!

That sounds like a solid plan to me.

Do whatever works best for you.

It sounds like a great plan. FSU is a reputable school. Just don’t fall in the trap of schools like Devry and the University of Phoenix etc… online programs.

FSU sounds great. As @sensation723 says, avoid for profit schools. Accredited state schools are a good way to go. Good job.

I think that’s a good plan; FSU is a good school. I think a good rule of thumb is “Avoid schools with TV commercials!”

I was also reading about Harvard Extension School. First time hearing about them. Has anyone got any insights about it ? Seems like I can complete a degree with most modules online, but I’ll have to spend at least 1 term on campus to complete 16 credits.

It’s a popular program. And at the end, you will have a degree from Harvard University! (“Regular” undergrads have their degrees from Harvard College.)
