Thoughts about the Theatre Program?

Greetings - my son is finalizing is applications, and is looking for a BA program in theatre. He also wants a BA, for a more rounded preparation (as well as career options). I'd be interested in any thoughts folks might have had about Ithaca's program.
Thanks!

Theater is absolutely one of Ithaca's strengths, without question. It's a great school for theater arts, specifically if you are uncomfortable with large and/or urban schools (NYU, Yale, USC), but don't want something too small (for example, Dickinson has a good program, but is smaller). Ithaca, at about 6K students, falls in between.

It also gives you access to Cornell, for additional resources and student population.

Another strength of Ithaca is the breadth of the program. Most schools have theater programs for acting. But Ithaca is one of the schools that offers a full theater arts program - lighting, directing, and the full scope of theater production. They also support both live theater and TV.

I visited with a family member, and one of the things that struck me about the campus was that all these kids were really into theater/TV, not just into being "different". Just an impression, but I came away thinking there was not too much in the way of purple hair and piercings, but the kids were open to anyone who had them. It was more that they really were all planning to make it in the business.

But your son will have to be prepared to wear silk underwear in 3 feet of snow !!

Good luck.
