Maelstrom, in each Warren suite there are six bedrooms: four singles and two triples/doubles. Hence 40%-50% of people in the res halls are in singles. Your chances of getting a single are even higher than this because not everyone requests a single.

arctic all the revelle dorms have doors on the showers lol

in warren there were doors on the stalls but curtains on the shower.

the only thing separating the two separate showers in each bathroom at revelle is see-through glass... oh well, there was only one case when someone else decided to take a shower while i was

I had a fantastic time yesterday, actually. I really liked the scene around Muir, and going to Admit Day pushed UCSD up the ranks as far as whose offer I want to accept.

It's turning into a really hard decision!

As a parent, I think UCSD is a very safe and beautiful school for kids. UCSD's food is much better than Berkeley's. I saw lots of pretty girls on UCSD admit day.

revelle's reshalls come in two flavors: the argo/blake setup has 2 side-by-side showers per 10-person suite, the showers are separated by frosted glass but entry to each shower stall is via a curtain. the fleet setup uses frosted glass for both entry and separation ... i hope they've replaced them since 2003, because they almost bordered on see-through.

Admit Day was really helpful! I finally got to see what Revelle dorms are like!! The Plaza food wasn't as bad as everyone said!!! :D Only downside...it was EXTREMELY hot! Hopefully I'll get used to it...right?

We were with our son at admit day and were very impressed! We thought the whole suite thing was a great idea, better than being stuck in a tiny dorm room with long hall ways etc!! (Have you guys seen UCLA?!? ugh!) Also thought Rimac Center was great!! state of the art workout equipment etc.. We toured Marshall and loved the location. OVT food court had great views and the food looked to be very decent with many choices. As for "Triton Eye" we saw all kinds of different people ranging from surfer types, serious students, as well as fraternity/sorority and atheletes. the same you would see on any campus!! We got there the day before (Friday to see what a typical "school day" would be like.) Poked into a couple of lectures etc... wanted to get a viewpoint before all the pomp and circumstance of "Admit day" We were sold and can't wait for our son to go. He is very excited and happy with his choice! We ended up the day buying out most of the student store!! Ha ha had to get my UCSD MOM bumper sticker!

it's rarely that hot in san diego (minus in the summer) ... but remember that people retire there -- so averaged out, san diego probably has some of the best weather in the country. :)

a freezing and disgruntled new yorker

Haha!! I live up by San Francisco, and we get some kickass weather! So I'm hoping the transition won't be too difficult.

And tough break with the snow, Astrina! At least you get to make snowmen! :(

the day of Admit Day was actually the hottest day I've experience here at UCSD so far.

The weather really was out of the ordinary. I've lived in San Diego for 17 years right along the coast and Saturday's heat was not the usual. Most days, it's cooler than that, typically with some morning fog or clouds. If anything, the heat gave all of us on campus a good reason to go to the beach.

In regard to the dining plan, it is inflexible in the sense that you have to buy the amount they assigned. However, the dining dollar plan does have its benefits. You can spend your money when you want to spend it. If you want to buy a lot of food one day, you can do that. If you don't want to buy any food the next day, you can do that too. It's not like other dining plans where you get a certain number of meals per day or a certain amount of dollars per day. With those plans, you lose the meals and money forever if you choose not to use all of them during that day. I'm a big fan of how the dining plan works at UCSD and I think once you get here you'll be too.

Being a freshman at Warren currently, I found admit day, while very useful, did not show what you'll be experiencing on a daily basis. I was lucky enough to know 2 people here when i came for Admit day, and that changed things a bit.

Regarding food: Its ok, but gets tiring fast. Me and my friend's go off campus more and more as the year end is approaching. I don't understand why the mealplan was called inflexible, since you can spend it on what you want whenever you want (as long as the place takes mealpoints). It is slightly overpriced in the Dining Halls, but that seems true for most colleges. Earl's Place (the small convenience store in warren) is definately overpriced. For example, a Monster Energy drink costs $3.50 (mealpoints or cash), while you can get it for 2.39ish at other places on campus that doesn't accept mealpoints (Sunshine Store).

The Dorms: At first, the dorm looked somewhat small (I have a single). Very small. But i got used to it, and realized i ahve more than enough space to keep all my books, clothes, electronics, fridge, mircowave, etc...I even had 3 suitcases, 2 handbags, and a mini suitcase in here at one point, and everything fit fine (if anyone is wondering why, my planning skills aren't top notch. I'd usually go home with one suitcase, come back with 2...until we ran out of suitcases at home...oops). I'm not in my dorm most of the time on weekdays, since i'm out eating, hanging out with friends, and mainly class. Especially when a class is across campus and i only have an hour break, rather than walk 15 minutes back to my dorm, and 15 minutes again to class, i go to a friend's place or somewhere else and stay there. Weekends I tend to be in my dorm more often, and its still not that bad.

THe Dreaded Triple: It's not as bad as people make it to be. My suitemates are perfectly happy with their triple, and never seem to have a problem with it. Even when one of them is playing music on his speaker system that wieghs as much as my fridge, it never is a problem, and the room size is ok. There are two closets, and the third person gets a wardrobe type thing that seems to be sufficient. The only problem might be when all 3 people want to use a wired internet connection, in which case you have to get a router. If one or more people are fine with wireless (aka if it works well in your room), then its not that big of a problem.

Thats my two cents.

omg went to admit day for the jacobs engineering tour... so boring, and hot... the guide started talking about the chairs in the computer lab because he ran out of things to say... from the other posts, it seems the other tours were more informative and enjoyable... ugh.. felt like a waste of time for me..

overall it was cool. the student body seems like one i'd fit in with and the suites make it easy to make friends on a big campus.

i would have liked more trees. eucalyptus(sp) don't count!! but i guess thats what you get for the lack of rain.

i'm undecided about the meal thing. i think its good in the sense you don't have to spend a whole meal to get a snack, but the stuff there is so expensive!

The audience at the ECE panel seemed very bored. People had their faces in their hands. Did any of you attend that?

visiting UCSD definitely made a difference -- but still weighing it w/ Davis for various reasons.

I like where Warren is situated - really close to Price center & student services center. But the food - I could see myself getting tired of it pretty quickly. I ate at the Subway/Panda Express area (what is it called?). Is there another place most Warren students eat at?

and maybe it was becuz it was Sat, but I didn't see that many SD ppls hanging around. do ppl usually go off campus on weekends?

Yeah, the campus isn't exactly crowded on the weekends unless there is something going on... And I think some people were avoiding campus because 1)it was admit day (and thus very crowded) and 2) it was really hot, so the beach seemed like a good idea...

I saw some pretty girls there. So much for the Triton Eye theory.
