Thoughts on affirmative action

Now when I'm writing this, you can probably guess that I am a white male preparing to apply to colleges, however, I dislike the affirmative action policy very much.
I mean, honestly, what does it prove? Sure it might make schools more diverse, but shouldn't schools want the best regardless of race (particularly), religion, gender, or whatever it may be?
The idea I would propose is this:
1. The application that the colleges see first just has your gpa, school, ecs, recs, test scores, etc. No personal information in this section. Your recs should not use your name either for it may give away race, gender, etc. All applications will have a number on the top.
2. You would then have another paper with the same number that gives your personal info (address, age, race, gender, etc, etc)that someone else holds onto at the college. The admission board could then make a list of the numbers that they find the most suitable just judging from the first part of the application. They would then match these numbers with the personal information so that none of that goes into account when picking canidates. This way, they could not be considered racist by any group of people.
What do you think about that idea?

That wouldn't work because colleges would lose a lot of $$ when alums stopped donating because their sons and daughters were being rejected.

the world is unfair, and it will ALWAYS be... either one group will be complaining or another.. affirmative action is an endless debate... I simply suggest that we all do our best to get into the college we want and try not to let these ridiculous "stuff" get into the way of what is important. If you're meant to be at that college, one way of another you will be.. :)
