I'm currently a junior at a fairly competitive public magnet school that focuses in science/engineering. Although certainly not artsy, I envision myself with a certain poli sci/econ track in college and feel as if my school has nothing to offer in the way of such courses. Also, I my GPA, although a solid A, is relatively lower than what it should be because the classes I enroll in are significantly more difficult than that of my classmates, and I'm not entirely sure if the guidance department is aware of this condition or willing to make such a concession.

I was thinking about applying to Phillips Exeter as a senior, I'm not too considered about the idea of why'd he leave his school as a junior or about making the adjustment to boarding life, but I am slightly concerned about getting adequate recommendations in such a short time span two months for early apps, and four months for reg apps.

I also know that while my chances were fairly strong in the regular admissions pool-top percentile SAT Scores, fairly strong academic record, Eagle Scout, countless other extracurriculars-they are greatly diminished by virtue of my late application. But you know, I won't even get the chance to make the decision to enroll if I don't apply.

well,
my way of looking at it is,
it cant hurt to apply...
you cold apply and see what happens,
and if your in, your in...
or you could not apply and sit in class for another year wondering what it would have been like if you had applied and been accpeted...

Hey,
I applied as a new senior and I was recently admitted at all the schools I applied to. I think you should definately apply and see what happens--the recs and other things you can get from your old school (teacher ones at least) and you can supplement them with one from your new school.

Btw, if you're intending on applying late, you should do that ASAP, and if you really want to go, you should apply to more than one school.

Well the downside to applying and not going is having my teachers wonder "why the heck did we waste our time filling out those forms if he decided not to go". Especially since my English/Math teacher (the one's Exeter requires) are probably the teachers I would've asked for recs from if I didn't bother applying to Exeter in the first place.

I see what you're saying...but when they fill out the forms/write the letter for you, a lot of there comments or thoughts can be saved for your college recs next year...

when i was giving my teachers all the forms to fill out for admission,
i thought i was being such a burden,
it felt like i was always coming up to them with more forms for them to fill out,
but one teacher pointed out to me that it was no problem for them to do,
and afterall,
it is kind of their job
