i was thinking of applying to michigan in the fall, but i am nervous about the way the admissions officers would review my application. I realize that everyone says they go to a very competitive high school, but dooes the college take into account the high school that you went to? I attend the 2nd highest rated high school in illinois with an amazing pool of intelligent kids. For many students at my school, this hurts their chances at college admissions because there is no grade inflation (getting an A is tough) and many regular level classes are akin to honors level classes elsewhere.

My Michigan GPA would come in at around a 3.4, but are the classes i have taken looked at (level of difficulty at the high school also)? I can only hope that a high ACT (i'm looking at a 30-34) and a challengng courseload will impress UMich admissions officers. I have heard that if an applicant's GPA isn't above a 3.6 he/she has no chance of admission. Thoughts?
