Thoughts on Chem E for pre-med

DS is now considering the path of Chem E, versus EE / Math as a degree track at UA. We would welcome any thoughts, specifically if Chem E is a good pre-med degree? Along the same lines, does UA provide good groundwork for medical school? The other school DS is considering is UF, which is attractive in the fact that it’s an hour away, inexpensive, and has an excellent reputation. Truth be told, UA is a much warmer, more welcoming campus, and is first place on our list. Decisions, decisions!!

My son is ChemE and pre-med. It seems to be working out well for him.

As far as your question about UA laying the groundwork for pre-med, I’m not sure what you mean by that…Hopefully, this will clarify…

1) Pre-med pre-reqs are regular classes…Bio I and II, Chem I and II, Orgo I and II, Physics I and II, and Calculus.

2) Bama has a very good pre-health advising staff and website. They frequently host guest speakers, seminars, etc, and of course, advisign.

3) Bama does do the highly desired “Committee Letters” for med school apps.
