Thoughts on double majoring?

I'm currently a first semester transfer student with 40 hours currently in addition to the 15 hours I am taking this semester. I'm a RTF student and since my main focus is visual effects and animation I figured some technical knowledge of visualization would be great. Because of this I've been seriously considering double majoring in RTF and Computer Science (either the BA or new BSA option).

Before I decided I wanted to major in RTF I wanted to major in Computer Science so I took AP computer science in high school. Back then I was a lazy senior and didn't get anything about the subject. However I am now in a computer science course (CS 302) and I really love the subject. Everything just comes clear to me and the more I research the computer science curriculum the more interested I become. I know plenty of students double major in RTF/CS so it's not impossible.

The main issues I am having though is wondering if I will graduate in time and if I don't would it really be worth the extra money I would have to pay? I'm already getting in a pretty good amount of debt and as much as it pains me to say it RTF isn't as safe of a degree as something like business or computer science. Plus I know UT is well known for their CS program and even a BA/BSA degree would have it's benefits in the job market. Even if it does take me an additional year it might be worth the cost.

Any thoughts? I believe I have to have 30 hours in residence to even declare anything first so I know I have some time.

Also if it helps on in pretty good shape when it comes to my RTF degree. My core is pretty much complete aside from a UGS course and a second geology course. For RTF I need my foreign language requirement (might just take it off-campus) and electives (which if I double major I should be able to take care of that). Aside from that I really just need upper-division RTF courses.

Computer Science is one of the most lucrative majors you can possibly have. If it takes you an extra two years, you will probably make that money back pretty fast.

It’s not uncommon for CS students to get paid summer internship after their first year if they have good GPA and can program.
CS students who don’t get paid summer internships after second year are doing something really wrong or have really low GPA and cannot program (technical interview is required, often on the phone).
Paid internships will cover at least tuition, they may cover the whole COA, but it depends on job and summer expenses.

And 30 hours at residence was not required at least last year. Go to CNS office and ask them.
