Hi, I am a freshmen now at Simmons College in the Nursing program and I absolutely hate the school, and I am looking to transfer to a community college for Spring 2015, then another 4 year college in Fall 2015. I have been seriously looking into Endicott College, can anyone offer any comments on it? Thank you.

Also, any other schools for Nursing I should look in to?

What don’t you like about Simmons Nursing Program? Endicott is located in a very suburban community–very quiet compared to Boston. Simmons is rated higher than Endicott and the student profile is different…what attracted you to Simmons and what’s missing?

Hi @collegeadvice2,
I know that Simmons is ranked higher, and it was definitely the location right near the hospitals and the grassy quad that attracted me to it. I have since realized that for one, I do not like the all-girls aspect of Simmons. I also miss having one, big campus where people actually go out and do things. I also miss not having any school spirit and sports games that anyone is really interested in.

Sorry to hear that the college is not a great fit…but you can transfer – perhaps a larger school would be better…do you want to stay in Boston…Northeastern or BC are possibilities but transferring into Nursing schools can be difficult…some just don’t allow transfers and if they do, they are usually just a few spaces – best bet is to get the best grades possible. Is UMASS-Amherst of interest?

I am not interested in Northeastern, and I’m not sure BC is attainable I think that UMass Amherst accepts students into the Nursing program. Thank you for your suggestions though!

What about BU? don’t they have a good Nursing school?

Actually, BU doesn’t have a nursing program - if memory serves me correct, I believe they merged with the Northeastern nursing program not too long ago. Thank you thought!

Oh, when I was there in the stone ages, they had the Sargent school of nursing right up from Kenmore Sq.

Haha I wish! Thank you though!

I’m am curious on Endicott, Emmannuel and UNH schools. My daughter has gotten into them all. Nursing programs at a Endicott and UNH. Bio at Emmanuel. She is really undeclared but selected nursing on applications because there is interest but unsure.
She likes the city of Boston. I am worried that the school may be too small, not a lot to do if your low on cash. She’s always been involved in HS activities. Do we have any students on forum with insight?
Endicott is beautiful and close but not in Boston. UNH is larger has a campus but not in the city. Would like any feedback on any of these schools good or bad.
I have a friend at Emmanuel…not very prestigious and students are weak academically–my friend is there because she got a great scholarship even though her SAT’s were in the low 500’s. Now she is questioning the decision and asking if she can really get to medical school from there …just not the usual track for top science/math type majors. I think she will transfer. The big question is what can you do JUST a bio degree other that work in a lab?
Endicott has a good nursing school reputation but their NCLEX was not that high a couple of years ago. You should check on the Massachusetts and NH Licensing websites for nursing schools. I also had no interest in being in a suburban location…too much like my home. Everyone says their nursing school is pretty good, but not top tier.
NCLEX pass rates are really important or so I have been told by a friend of our family who is a nurse…if you don’t pass the test, you can’t be an RN…so where you get your education is important. I’m really glad each school has to publish their scores. Simmons, NE and BC are always at the top and all are in Boston where the best hospitals are-- so for me, Simmons is best choice.
Sorry, don’t know anything specific about UNH but campus is pretty and really safe. Is it a direct entry nursing program? If you are in-state probably excellent choice because of cost is half of private schools like Endicott.
Good Luck!
