Hello everyone I want to know if it is possible to major in both these fields. I want to hear your opinions and experience that you or anyone you knew had with pursuing either one of these majors. It is a dream of mine to become a news reporter but deep down inside I would love work for the film industry. The thing is I plan to transfer to USC after a year or two from my community college. Would double majoring be more stressful as transfer student? Have you met anyone who has majored in both these fields? What are they doing now? Thanks everyone! :)

You’re not going to be able to double major in both as a transfer student.

I’m a Print/Digital major, but we take our modules (USC pairs broadcast and print/digital students together for multiple semesters) together. It would be incredibly difficult to transfer in, take your required GEs (two are non-transferrable), your required core courses and electives… and still be able to major in film and television production.

For reference, I transferred in with maximum units and I won’t have the wiggle room to even minor. I’m going to be out in four semesters, but most transfer students have to take at least five semesters if they transfer into Annenberg.

I would recommend just majoring in Broadcast. Annenberg will give you a lot of opportunities to network with film industry folks and enable you to break into that industry if you prefer. For instance: Annenberg’s career development office is having an alumni panel tomorrow with executive assistant to Conan O’Brien and manager of drama developer for CBS (and others) for Annenberg students.

Plus, our new building opens up next fall semester and will boast the best production facilities any university has to offer. If you’re a broadcast major, you won’t be able to find better digs.

Good luck and fight on.
