I just finished my junior year and I was wondering what my chances were for getting into Wake Forest.

My weighted GPA is about a 4.6 or 4.7, I have consistently taken honors and AP classes and I'm registered for AP classes for my senior year. I'm ranked 9 out of 390, but I have the third highest GPA in my class.

I have taken the SAT twice and my best scores were:
Math - 720
Reading - 630
Writing - 660

I am involved in Key Club and have been all throughout high school. I have held leadership positions as Sophomore Representative and Treasurer. I have been entertainment editor and editor in chief for my school's newspaper. I hold a leadership position in Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I am also in National Honor Society and Quill & Scroll. I have participated in the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Seminar, Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics, and Tarheel Girls State.

I have completed approximately 100 hours of community service in various places each year of high school, both required and not required.

Finally, I work for a tutoring program through the YMCA four days a week, three hours a day. And I am involved in my church's youth group.

I have already had my interview at Wake, and I feel like it went really well.

Any thoughts?

I think that you will be fine. My son had similiar stats (although his GPA wasn’t quite as high) and he will be attending in August. I see that you don’t have any athletic participation…my son had 3 varsity letters. What was your feeling after your interview? My son had his interview after he applied, and the man who interviewed him liked him so much he kept in touch with him to follow his progress. Wake’s app asks lots of off beat questions. Take your time with it. I think the short answer format tells them alot about the applicant. Good Luck with your senior year. You have alot to be proud about.

Thanks for the advice! I’m actually planning on playing tennis this year, I had a major surgery my sophomore year that has kept me from being able to play in the past. I actually got a chance to explain this to my interviewer when I went, so I think that will help.

I thought the interview went really well. I was extremely nervous at first, but once I started talking with her it became more of a conversation and less of an interview. It lasted about 30 or 40 minutes and I felt really comfortable.

I’ve already submitted my application because I’m applying for early decision.

Did your son receive confirmation from Wake after they had received all the parts of his application?

Thanks for your help!

when you applied early decision you used the common app, correct? i was thinking about waiting for the official wake forest app to come out. please let me know!
good luck!

i actually started filling out the wake forest application from last year without realizing it. once the website changed to show that the current application was unavailable, i got really upset because i thought i had spent a month filling out the wrong application. when i went in for my interview i talked to my admission counselor and she said they would accept any application. so i actually submitted the wake forest application from last year.

thanks!

o, wow! thank you for the information!

my son applied via the common app so the only confirmation that he received was from them that it had been submitted. Wake is not so great about letting you know what was received and what is needed. (Boston College has an excellent system). I am not sure if he ever called to check and make sure that everything was received by Wake. But honestly, if I was a betting woman, knowing my son, he probably didn’t. Some kids worry that everything will get lost, he is the type who figures everything got there. Good Luck.

i decided to go ahead and call wake yesterday and come to find out they had received everything but they had misplaced my interview information so in the system my application looked incomplete. i’m so glad i called!
