We did the SLC v. New School comparison and decided on SLC. Both have good theater and acting opportunities. Our impression (and this has been borne out the closer we look) is that SLC has a more focused and supportive program. The advising system (“donning”) allows an in-coming student to work closely, for a year, with theater faculty, and then design a more personal curriculum. Eugene Lang has some great stuff, too; but the institutional culture of the place would seem to require more initiative and persistence on the part of the student; not as much direct faculty guidance.
As to cost, they are rather close in gross terms. But SLC actually does better in terms “net price,” after financial aid is factored in:
