Thoughts on my essay topic?

I’m currently working on my essay for the common app and I’m not really sure if this topic is good or not…

The prompt is “Describe a problem you’ve solved or a problem you’d like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.”

I wanted to write about how overcoming being diagnosed with depression is what led me to my intended field of study (neuroscience) and how I want to someday help treat others with mental illness.

Is the essay topic appropriate or should I try to think of something else?

That sounds really good! I think you can definitely write a well written essay on that!

I think there are a lot of paths you could go down with that topic that would be harmful. You could also write a great essay on the topic; just be careful.

Make sure the emphasis is on SOLVING the problem, not in the issues it caused you.
