Thoughts On The Collegeboard SAT Subject Test Book?

Hey Guys,

I'm going to be doing plenty of studying for standardized testing over the summer. I hear the collegeboard books are a must buy, as after all they are the ones that make the test. I was planning on purchasing the Subject Test book, but wasnt sure if it was as good as the reasoning test book. Has anyone used this book before, and suggests that I purchase it? Any feedback appreciated.

I can only speak for the US History and Lit sections of the book, but yes it is a must buy! It helps you get a feel for what the real test will be like, and what areas you need to brush up on.

If you’re looking for some in-depth review and knowledge of the subject, the book is not for you. It does provide detailed explanations for each answer, which can help you get some good review, but it doesn’t give you a complete guide and review of the subject in its entirety.

If you’re looking for some solid practice tests, and an evaluative review of what you need to learn and what the real test will be like - it is a must buy!

So Pros:
Contains practice test for each subject
Provides detailed explanation for each answer
Give you realistic idea of real test content
Helps you gauge your score for the real test
Helps you figure out which subject you will do well on - and what area you need more knowledge in of that subject

Cons:
Only one test per subject
Doesn’t provide overall review of subject

Either way, I think it’s helpful because if you’re studying for the tests, practice tests are pretty much essential.

Thanks for the advice!

The book is a must since it’s the only source of real practice tests. If you’re taking US History, World History, Math I, or Math II, you should also consider getting the specialized CB guides for history or math as well.

@314159265 I agree, if you are taking the Math or history tests then those books are a must as well! It’s great extra practice!

It is a necessary evil, where else can you get a previous test?
