Thoughts on these schools?

So, I think I've narrowed down the list of schools I want to apply to.

University of Wisconsin - Madison
Ohio State University
University of North Dakota
University of Colorado - Boulder
Colorado State University

They're all public schools, since I don't really see myself at a conservatory. UW-Madison and OSU are on there as kind of my reach schools. CU-Boulder is a good match, I think. CSU and UND are both safeties, financially and academically. I'm not too sure where all these schools lie in terms of music programs though... I'd be majoring in Music, probably Composition or Performance. From what I can tell, CSU seems to have the weakest music program. CU-Boulder, UW, and OSU seem to be in the same general range. I haven't heard too much about UND, but I a guy I marched with last year in high school goes there, and he says the program's pretty good.

So... yeah. Thoughts? I've only visited the Colorado schools, and I'll probably only have the funds to visit one more. I think CU-Boulder is my first choice, but I wanted to apply to more schools than just that and these are what I came up with. Thanks!

U of Colorado at Boulder has some very strong faculty and a good reputation. I think that you are correct in that UND and CSU are the weakest of the 5.

Ohio State has the best football of the five…though Wisky is pretty good, too. Not sure what else you need to know.

Buranri - Do understand that out-of-state public universities often end up much more expensive to attend than private colleges - because they do not give aid to out-of-state students. If I were you I would not rule out private colleges with good music programs - they needn’t be conservatories.

However, sticking to Western publics, you might also check out University of Montana and University of Utah. And Arizona State.

S looked briefly at the University of Northern Colorado, their jazz program is spoken of highly.

SpiritManager - Yep, unfortunately. I want to go to a large school though, largely for marching band and for opportunities outside of music, which might not necessarily be available at a small private school. From what I heard at the tour CU-Boulder, at least, has a decent amount of aid for OOS students.

Large school, strong music, marching band: Indiana University, University of Michigan.

And, there are large private schools which pride themselves on their bands and do give nice music scholarships, like Notre Dame or Northwestern.
