Tufts seems to have a pretty extensive core requirement system (especially with the foreign language). What's everyone's thoughts? Like it? Dislike it? Advantage? Disadvantage?

If you’re coming in with AP credits you can finish distribution requirements quickly. My son is finishing his sophomore year and was done with his distribution requirements including foreign language last semester. You take a foreign language exam during orientation week and can be placed out of couple of year of it even if you didn’t take ap level. He didn’t and was right away placed into a 3rd year.
In terms of advantages, it gives you a well rounded education. I don’t see any disadvantages. You can select a lot of different classes to fulfill your requirements. He really enjoyed all his classes.

This seems to be the page for the grad requirements . This has been a to-do for m e- to examine this

Is it true that engineers don’t have to take language?

yes

Actually, it is true that engineers don’t have the foreign language/culture requirement, but they learn several computer languages :-)

Those “other languages” are a much better requirement, in my child’s view. :)

Some would say that engineers represent a foreign culture and speak a foreign language :-)

Not so much at Tufts as at other schools…
