Thoughts on UT Engineering?

UT Engineering is not limited to the top 2-3%. Several kids from our school out of the top 10% have been admitted to engineering. Of course being in the top 2-3% is a big help. They look at more than class rank for getting into a major.

Top 2-3% may refer to an engineeing hornor program, not regular.

tjd, have you heard from UT for engineering major? My S got admitted by A&M with chemicla engineering, but haven’t heard from UT for major (his is top 7%), I read some already got into engineering major.

I have not heard from UT yet since I’m not top 7%. From what I’ve heard it will probably be around the end of February. I still check everyday. I personally don’t know of anyone that was admitted that was not automatic. I do see the ones that post here that have been admitted even though they weren’t auto. It seems like they have outstanding scores of 34-36/2200-2400 along with a solid application. I guess my 33 ACT doesn’t quite do it. :(

I’ve been admitted to A&M as an academic admit with a choice of petroleum engineering.

I also applied for Petroleum with Mechanical as my second choice.
I was going to apply to A&M, but as it was a last minute decision, I couldn’t get all the paperwork together in time, unfortunately.
I’m from NY, have a 32 ACT and am in the top 2% of my class of about 300. I had few extracurriculars but I’m hoping my essays will help pull me up (I thought the one was really good, but who knows…).
From what I can tell either all petroleum hopefuls are this smart, or only the ones who are actually bother to come on this website lol. I’m hoping I will hear back soon.
How do you know that you’ll hear back by the end of February? Does it matter if you’re in state or out of state?

Based on what I heard yesterday at a UT engineering information session, the admissions office is attempting to release all major decisions before/by mid-February. I assume if you have not been accepted yet, you should wait just a few more weeks, especially if you are interested in petroleum engineering. It is one of the more competitive majors to get into at UT.

UT will inform applicants by March 1. Historically they have notified applicants about 7-10 days prior to March 1. Good luck to all!

That’s good to hear that I won’t have to wait until April lol. I would expect that I’d be one of the last to hear back seeing as I’m OOS and therefore they’ll have to see how much room they have left, I think. I’m not really expecting to get in, but it would be nice. Then I won’t have to worry about transferring.

Best of luck!

summerrain2014 was your son an auto admit? would you share his details with us? (i.e. test scores, AP classes, gpa, etc).
