So after I mailed out my tape to a coach, he pretty much e-mailed saying he received the tape. Then I didn't really hear from him for a little (may have been talking to my coach I have no clue, he doesn't tell me about anything), so I e-mailed back and asked if he'd seen the tape. Then he said "LOVED THE FILM"..but after that statement was just copy and pasted info about camp and sending in stuff (he'd sent it before).

So should I look at this as a good thing? He didn't even watch it the first time I sent, he jsut said send it with scores.

Coach from Big time program (biggest program in area), said he's coming to watch a work out, yet requested my tape again because he said it wasn't working. So I'm confused by the situation, maybe he watched the online link I provided?

Sounds like he is interested but wants more time, or maybe you are his #3/#4, but not top of his recruit list. Hard to gauge without knowing what sport you are referring to. No harm in asking direct questions. If you want or need to know where you stand with that particular coach… ask.

Well Im only a junior- the sport is football. I don’t want to rush them or anything.

I e-mailed another coach to see if he had watched the film, and he said since I’m a junior he won’t get to it until February. Maybe this is how it is with a lot of coaches?

Another question along with my original - if these coaches aren’t going to watch the tape until much longer…do they have some kind of organization, or will my tape probably be lost?

These are all ivies - and the big program is Boston College.

They really aren’t into Juniors yet. they have offices piled with stuff, and sometimes things get lost. Don’t take it personally. I would expect serious recruiting to start in April.

OldBatsie doc is correct. Football recruiting really starts in April time frame. Most coaches recieve list of upcoming seniors from Coaches services in that time frame. Most also wait until they have class ranks and junior grades and hopefully some SAT/ACT test scores at least before they get overly interested.

For a school like BC, most of their recruits have been on their radar from freshman/sophmore year, so dont be surprized if he is lukewarm. One kid from our area has had a verbal commitment to BC since he was a freshman, he is a junior this year. I have no doubt he will go there and play at QB. A friend who is a D1 coach says he watches kid from freshman year but he only needs to meet NCAA recruiting criteria

Coaches do lose film and most put Jr tape aside and dont look at it until they are ready to start recruiting that class. Just do what they ask, and if they need another film, send it. At my sons program (NESCAC), they are still hosting senior visits and have not even begun thinking about this years juniors in most cases. For IVY’s and NESCAC, they really want SAT and ACT scores before they get interested. They need to know if the kid is able to be admitted, and that depends on those scores. As Coach Mills at Amherst said, the higher the scores the less help you need with admissions, so if the kid is going to need a lot of help, coaches need to know that to determine if the skill set is worth it.

Ive sent scores. Whats the conclusion on this…sent tape and everything again in april? or march? When are junior days for football. Send it even to coaches that have watched it and said they were interested and stuff?

A college football (top 10 DI school) coach friend of mine says they much prefer links to youtube via email. I know you can’t get an entire game on youtube, but I was inferring (from him) that it’s just easier for the coaches to save and organize emails from athletes than it is actual DVDs or thumb drives. He says send the link until they ask for the tape. And still, they might lose it. Have you ever been in a coach’s office? Oh my…

Better Coaches and better programs are more organized and have a better recruiting model- Your best bet is to go to the camps and introduce yourself to the coaches in person. Bust your hump at the camps- Follow up after the camp - send them your SAT / ACT Socres when you have them - My guess is that BC won’t pay attention to you unless you show up at their camp and impress them - the camp is large and they know who / what they are looking for - If they are not reaching out to you after you have sent tape - they are not interested - they are at least 2 years out in theit recruiting and most likely 3 years out -
