^^I know, I'm all over the place, but I don't worry about that. I've already figured out how I can tie everything together. ;]

^ Wow, that's insane. ^

I mean, I knew of a lot of colleges that seemed interesting and fun to look into by last year, but no way no how was I that organized, prepared, and into the college process already. MAJOR props, you're going to get into some fantastic colleges. It actually reminds me of this story at my school—a seventh grader's parents called our college counselor to schedule a meeting about college visits...when she was only 12!!! Ahh, kids these days...

Glad to see all the junior (and some sophomore ;-)) pride! Here are my stats re-posted in an easier format for your viewing pleasure (and a little bump for our thread):

STATS

SCHOOL: tiny, very prestigious and stuck-up private school in California with only ~65 people per grade (can't wait to get out of here!)
GPA - UW: 3.8 W: 3.9-4.0 ish (unreported)
SAT - Taking it in March, scored 2140 on a practice test
PSAT - 206; anyone else find the PSAT harder than the SAT? Also... does NM Commended scholar matter at all? Just wondering since I know I won't get NMSF.
APs - Junior year: French language and APUSH. Senior year: Bio, Gov, AB Calc, Eng. Lit
ACT - n/a
Class Rank - Doesn't rank at all.
MINORITY? - White as wonderbread
FIRST GENERATION? - Nope

EXTRA CURRICULARS

-Photography (sophomore year); Advanced Photo (junior year) -> is a class appearing on transcript and a huge interest of mine
-JSA (Junior Statesmen of America); political group during sophomore, junior (VP), and senior (projected president since it's a small group) years... definitely another passion
-Students for Barack Obama (coordinated this group during sophomore year and volunteered ~50 hours for his campaign)
-JV Volleyball: 9, 10 (Coach's Award); Varsity Volleyball: 11, 12 (hopefully co-captain)
-Varsity track: 10, 11, 12
-Piano for 10 years

AWARDS:
- Coach's Award for JV Volleyball in 10th grade
- Piano Achievement trophy after playing for 10 years

^ To be honest, I don't think either of these count at all. My school offers a lot of academic awards after junior year, so I'm crossing my fingers for either history or french :)

MAJORS/MINORS/CONCENTRATIONS:
- Political Science or International Relations (some sort of pre-law track); possible minor in Women's Studies

BONUSES/HOOKS:
- Errrr... none, except a legacy at Stanford

SCHOOLS (in order of interest):
Amherst, Georgetown, Brown, Claremont McKenna, Tufts, Macalaster, Bowdoin

I'VE VISITED:
Just Stanford since I live so close... and have been to Cal. Nothing official yet though.

wait, does first generation refer to first generation in this country or first generation to go to college?

also, the portfolio i showed at NPD, i think this is a relevant stat for art schools

Lovestoned014-Yes, I am definitely finding the PSAT harder. I haven't officially taken the SAT yet either but have done way better on the practice tests than I did on the PSAT. Weird, but I guess that's better in the long run than the other way around. =] Very impressive stats by the way!

Spruce-first generation GENERALLY means first generation to go to college. I love your art portfolio by the way!

^^ Spruce, your portfolio was awesome! :)

We got some impressive stats over here! Yay junior pride!

Anyone else notice that "The Class of 2010" is probably the coolest sounding graduating class since 007?

Guess I should post stats too--2010 junior here, been lurking on CC since spring of sophomore year.

STATS

SCHOOL: competitive public magnet in DE
GPA - 4.0 UW/4.185 W
SAT - Got a 2170 (760 CR / 650 M / 760 W) in 8th grade, but that score was erased from my record.
PSAT - 223 (80 CR / 71 M / 77 W)
APs - All honors except for required classes and four years of Band. Junior year: Eng. Lang and Calc AB. Senior year: Eng. Lit, French Lang, CompSci, and probably Calc BC (possibly Stats instead)
ACT - n/a
Class Rank - Not released, though right now unofficially I'm in the top 10 of ~250. We have a weird ranking system that uses numeric grades (i.e. 97 > 95), I think, because I know people with a higher weighted GPA but a lower rank than me.
MINORITY? - Asian (Chinese)... ORM/URM depending on the school
FIRST GENERATION? - No

EXTRA CURRICULARS

Lit Mag - Managing Ed. and co-founder as sophomore, Ed.-in-Chief jr. year and next.

Book Club - Co-President and co-founder jr. year and next.

Key Club

Volunteering (no idea how many hours, but should be a good amount and relevant to my interests)

Blogging - Booklog since freshman year

Creative writing (independently; I attended a summer program after freshman year that transformed me)

AWARDS:
- Writers of the Future Contest, 2 Honorable Mentions
- Dancing Poetry Contest, 2nd Place
- Essay published in local newsletter
- Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, Regional Silver Key for poetry

(My school offers no academic awards.)

MAJORS/MINORS/CONCENTRATIONS:
- English major definitely, and possible CS double major
- Minors/interests: creative writing, French, linguistics, race/gender/sexuality studies

BONUSES/HOOKS:
- Geographic/racial diversity? I'm applying to several west/midwest LACs, and I don't mind rural. Hey, one year Pomona accepted 50% of Delaware students--only 4 applied.
- If I get into TASP... that's one huge if.

SCHOOLS (in order of interest):
Yale, Pomona, Swarthmore, Amherst, Vassar, Oberlin, Grinnell, Macalester, URochester, Beloit <--pretty much a set list. Also UDel, Lewis & Clark, and Denison thus far for merit possibilities. Can you tell I'm a bit obsessed?

I'VE VISITED:
A lot. Er... Yale, Harvard, Brown, Cornell, Wesleyan, Conn College, Vassar, Amherst, Williams, Rochester, maybe others that I can't recall because they got cut from my list. Not counting UPitt-Greensburg or Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where I attended summer programs. Have yet to visit Swarthmore or UDel, ironically the closest schools.

GO 2010!

2010 in the house! Been on CC since sophomore yr

AP: Junior-Bio, USH; Senior-Eng Lit, Gov, possibly Calc AB. Lots of honors classes.
Hook: Black, major
Major: East Asian Studies
Schools (alphabetical order): Amherst, Brown, Columbia, Earlham, Eckerd, Harvard, Knox, Occidental, Stanford, U. of Maryland, U. of San Francisco, U. of Southern California
Evaluating: Eckerd, Earlham, Knox
Possible removal: USC (fraternity/sorority issues)

I hope to visit all of these schools, if we can afford it. I started the college search in freshman year; I hope to have a final college list by May.
As you see, I don't believe in posting my stats; I'm trying to become less competitive this year.

Uggh...USC, take that one off your list japanmedlover!

I don't know, I just have issues with that school. Call me crazy, but I find it crazy to pay private school tuition to a school so huge and impersonal.

Plus, did you know...one step off the beautiful, manicured lawns of USC's beautiful pristine campus and you'll find yourself -- guess where! -- in the middle of Los Angeles's ghetto?! ...The stores all have bars on the windows. And graffiti on the bars and the walls and the sidewalks. And hobos...

I am new to this site, but I must agree that the Class of 2010 does have a nice ring to it! haha I am a junior at a public school in a small town in Arkansas (it's exhilarating! lol) I have a 4.0 GPA. I am ranked 5th out of 310 students. This year I am enrolled in AP Government and AP English Composition. Next year I will be in AP Calculus, AP Spanish, AP English Lit, AP American History, and AP Biology. I also have numerous honors classes. I have made All Region and All State Choir for years, taken piano for 7 years, I am a 3 year letter for Varsity Tennis and I made top eight in the state this year for men's singles. I have been involved in quiz bowl since fifth grade and in 9th grade I was state MVP for junior high quiz bowl. I currently have a 30 on the ACT but I am shooting to have a 32 by the end of this year. I have logged about 90 hours of volunteer service for this year. Naturally I am in a billion clubs (as I'm sure everybody else is as well) MOST IMPORTANTLY, I have a dazzling personality!! hahaha Sometimes I get discouraged because I hear about the masses of genius kids that get into the top schools. I just try my hardest and pray that it works. Possible majors would include biochemistry, international relations, biology, and history. My college list right now (under constant construction) is Johns Hopkins, Dartmouth, University of Chicago, Cornell, Vanderbilt, Boston University, and University of Miami. I am aware that quite a few of those are reach schools compared to my statistics; however, I am working to narrow the gap! ;) It is my pleasure to make your acquaintance.

p.s. I could "shop" for colleges well into my Medicare years. (it's just that much fun) It definitely is a very intriguing process!! lol xoxo

Yo, 2010 juniors represent.

STATS:

APs - I have taken every honors class my school offers. I can't take any APs until senior year, when I will take English, US Civics + Gov., Bio, Calc BC as independent study (school only offers AB), and Computer Programming independent study (not sure A or AB nobody has ever done this before in my school so details are getting fleshed out)

COLLEGE PLANS
I am deadset on applying ED for Johns Hopkins. It has been my dream school since I was six years old.
My backups are : Loyola (MD), University of Maryland, Villanova, Georgetown (reach) and NYU

COLLEGE MAJORS
I plan to major in a business related field. JHU only has an economics major. If I am accepted, I will additionally minor in entrepenurship/managment, and possibly psycology.

If I go the pre-med route (doubtful), I will major in neuroscience.

GRAD SCHOOL (YES, I WENT THERE!)
Johns Hopkins, if I do not enroll as an undergrad. If I do, probally still Hopkins, Loyola, or Maryland. Maryland has the best reputation however.

My parents hate how I muse about my future. I am not enjoying myself that much, so I look to the future when I can. I honestly need a fresh start.

@Helvetica: Oooh, any other musicians here? Somehow I overlooked music in the ECs list--it's been a sacrifice to take band throughout high school, but otherwise I can't audition for All-State (Band, on clarinet) and the thought of that makes me cry.

@Keilexandra - I am a musician, but I don't play in my school's band anymore. I started playing violin when I was 3, but by 12, I was too advanced for anyone close to my area except the Manhattan School of Music. I took lessons there for about a month, but the constant hour and a half drives were too much for a twelve year old. I played trumpet in my school's band from seventh grade until eleventh and got very good at it. I also play piano, and am currently focusing on guitar and have recently discovered the joy of the mandolin.

I just edited my post. I play drums, guitar, and sing. Am I on the right track (see above post) for JHU? What should I do differently?

@ Keilexandra - I know what you mean about the scheduling difficulties; band always seems to mess up the classes I want to take, but it's worth it :)
