Thread for BSMD 2020-2021 Applicants (Part 1)

Congratulation,
Would you let me know how is Skidmore college’s pre-med program?? My C got full scholarship 76k. I couldn’t find any information MD school acceptance rate Skidmore. Which is better option Skidmore UG or Seton hall BS/MD?

Congratulations!!!

See Skidmore has premed advisor and if they do, reach out to them and ask for MD acceptance data.

Ok. Thanks!!

@rk1235rk

I think Cornell sent out likely emails in the last few days. Probably because kids are going high stress mouth foaming anxious over the admission cycle this year.

(As I wipe the foam off my own mouth. Could Brown just give a hint or something?!!)

@Sooriya2021 - Congratulations!

Take a look at the link for pre-med students at Skidmore HPAC Frequently Asked Questions - Medical

Skidmore has an Early Assurance Program for URM candidates to apply for early admission to Albany Medical College in their sophomore year. More information can be found at 404 - Page Not Found

Whats your ultimate goal? Do you want to join BSMD badly? Or do you want to save money in your UG and go with regular route MD? You should ask your C to think hard on these and then decide.

BTW, Is Seton Hall giving you merit aid?

They told me early. I don’t know if that makes sense

Congratulations. Why does it matter when they announce their results? IMO, it should make sense since you got the seat :rofl:

Anyone heard from Temple PMHS?

Didn’t know there is something like likely emails. Is there unlikely or somewhat likely or totally unlikely or other variations emails too :slight_smile:

@GoldenRock Hi I was just wondering about Upenn did not get into MD program at all as my son is at Upenn premed, do you know why they did not get in or any tips for my son to at least get into one of them. Do you know any data like how many they applied and other stuff, just want to get ahead and hope that does not happen. Yes the Upenn premed classes are very challenging since my son is taking them right now and is only freshman year. And also wondering do they have thread for premed students at all at CC.

@narkor Thank you!!

Congrats to students who got into MIT and Cornell .

DD just got a call from Director Ripa for Upstate!!

@muscarf First don’t get alarmed. Posted to say anything is possible any where, good and bad. Not to worry about n=1 example and generalize. It is possible from MIT and had challenge with UPenn.

Bottom line, if some one is determined and have a reasonable clear plan from the get go (1st sem in UG) from any college (deflated or inflated, low or high) it is possible. See few of my posts in the BS/MD experience thread.

For ORM 3.8+ GPA, 515+ MCAT, 50+ hrs shadow primary care and few specialists, 150+ clinical volunteering, good essay, wide selection 25+ (all your in state colleges, reach, match & safety).

Coming back to UPenn student, don’t know. Based on the limited casual chat, here is my speculation. Appears applied only to T20 and not really keen on becoming a doctor and did not apply after 1 try. Strong student, did BioEngg at UPenn, had 39 MCAT, believe solid 3.8+ GPA, Research etc. Was waitlisted at Wash U (St.Louis) and UPenn, but in Nature’s play did not get in, for good or bad (only time will tell after 50 years!). Having a successful career in medical related industry on east coast.

I think most pediatric subspecialties will accept DO applicants. The 3 years in general peds really determine a pediatrician’s competitiveness for fellowships more than whether they were a MD or DO. Some of the most competitive peds subspecialties will be harder for a DO to match at, especially out west and California in particular but again, if a DO is a rock-star during their peds residency, they’ll have a good shot at fellowship. It’s the programs listed above (derm, plastics, surgical subspecialties) that use DO as one of many filters to narrow down their applicants to the group they interview. Many of these programs literally never even offer away rotations or interviews to DOs. That’s not to say that it won’t change over time or that DOs wouldn’t make terrific dermatologists or subspecialty surgeons but as a rule, DO medical schools aren’t affiliated with large academic medical centers with research and faculty prestige (which matters in letters of recommendation).

Is UPenn considered a grade inflation or grade deflation University?
