*** Thread for MD/DO 2023-2024 Applicants and Parents ***

Just looked at SDN. That is an interesting site with lots of good information. Sounds like Baylor does pre-match acceptances mid November.

Usually week of thanksgiving. They moved to tmdsas 2 years ago but havent changed their November release dates.

Since nobody else is on the thread… Applicant completed his 5th TMDSAS interview and UTSA has joined UTSW and Baylor in a three way tie for first place. All amazing schools. Ranking will be tough.

A weird development was Dell asking for a secondary in November. Had forgotten that he applied there and had not considered them a serious contender. But here they are.

That’s great!

The medical school pecking order is usually Baylor, UTSW, Dell sometimes goes next but so few are admitted there, McGovern, UTSA, UTMB, A&M and then everyone else. Baylor kind of messed it up by adding a location without telling people where they will be allocated.

With 2 private schools, I was surprised Texas boasts 16 schools (A&M has 2 programs).

He just got TMDSAS interview invitation number six today from McGovern. This process really does go on and on and on.

McGovern iikes to hold some higher stat people to the end to see if they will turn down interviews. If your match list is due early february and you are admitted to UTSW or Baylor, would you really worry about ranking McGovern high to match there is what they are looking at. This late an interview there will be no prematch usually and have to match thru match process. Neither of my kids were prematched at McGovern and both had an UTSW prematch which they listed as number 1. There was no baylor option in tmdsas back then.

Ours really wants to check them all out and has the attitude that any med school with above average stats is a good school.

That attitude would likely be different with a prematch acceptance at UTSA or Baylor.

Amazing both of yours got UTSW prematch. That’s very nice.

McGovern is a great school based on the resources available to the students. They are a bit different than others with their interviews and admissions since they dont give out a lot of prematches and match most people in match process. So anyone who has a prematch at UTSW or Baylor has to deliberately rank them number 1 to match there and give up much higher ranked schools and that rarely happens. What does happen is people have interviewed at all 3, no prematches and they ranked McGovern 3 and end up there. I know one person that happened to in the past cycle. If someone has one admission in texas before May 15th, on May 15th they can no longer be on any waitlists in texas and so they had to go to McGovern.

Interview date 1/21 for McGovern. That looks like their last date. They must be done.

On SDN someone mentioned 12th being last but looks like 21st is the last.
