Waitlisted with 36, 2360, 4.0, 800 SAT IIs, good ECs, and research. I visited campus, had an alumni interview, and emailed with several questions: was seriously interested in the school. I’ve already been accepted to UChicago and WashU and pretty shocked by this.

No problem! To add on:
Location: midwest (not Ohio)
FA: applied, but very high EFC; also applied for several merit scholarships and PPSP

Someone mentioned on the RD thread that applying to PPSP might have something to do with it?

@coldplayblue copied your post over from the RD thread. I hope that was OK.

I was wait-listed with a 35 ACT, 800 M2 SAT II, 4.0 GPA, NMF, great extracurriculars, etc. I had planned on visiting over spring break but I guess not. I hope this isn’t a preview of next week’s decision letters… Congratulations to everyone who was accepted!

Waitlisted

ACT: 36
SAT subject tests: Am. History: 800 Chem: 800 Math: 750
GPA: 3.93 UW
Excellent leadership ECs, long-term commitment to them
Excellent recs
requested an interview but didn’t get one
visited, in-state
financial aid: yes

parent posting for student, student has moved on, but is disappointed, wanted to stay in-state because mother has a longterm chronic illness, and Case was top choice if admitted with merit aid. Looks like it will be WUSTL.

@datageek, I would send an email to admissions officer and explain the situation and interest. I think they will take students off the waitlist, and I’m not sure anyone has better stats on the waitlist!

Waitlisted for ChemE. Stats copied from Dartmouth thread.

Objective:
[]SAT I (breakdown): 2320 (800 CR, 760 M, 760 W)

[]Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
[]Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 5/414
[]AP (place score in parenthesis): Chemistry (5), English Language (5), European History (5), Physics B (5), Psychology (5), US History (5)

Subjective:
[]Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Student-run international math league (co-director), Model UN (Founder), REACH peer helping (president), Mu Alpha Theta (Vice President), Quiz Bowl (Captain), Math Team, Latin Club, NHS.
[]Job/Work Experience: 12 hours/week at restaurant, 3 hours/week tutoring
[]Volunteer/Community service: ~70 hours planning summer activities for kids at botanical garden
[]Summer Activities: Nothing that was worth putting in my application.
[]Essays: CommonApp: Really liked this one. Chose the topic about becoming an adult and wrote about work. Definitely would give this one at least 9/10.
[]Supplement: Wrote about the above-mentioned math league and how we got cheated by some guy who made up a school to take awards and what I learned from it. Kinda generic. 6/10 maybe?
[]Teacher Recommendation: One from my Calculus teacher who loves me and I’ve worked really closely with over the years. 9/10. One from my physics teacher who likes me well enough but may not know me as well. 7/10.
[]Counselor Rec: Probably generic, but, again, she likes me, so maybe 6/10?
[]Additional Rec: Peer rec from a very close friend who is a very talented writer. Hopefully this translates to a good recommendation, but it would be safe to say at least 8/10
[]Interview: N/A
[]Supplementary Material: N/A

[]State (if domestic applicant): Alabama
[]Country (if international applicant):
[]School Type: Large Public. Somewhat competitive.

[]Income Bracket(mention if FA candidate): Didn’t apply
[]Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None, unless being from Alabama?
Reflection
[]Strengths: Test Scores, some ECs, CommonApp essay
[]Weaknesses: Other than math league stuff, not really any major ECs that grabbed any attention. Some generic recs maybe?
[]Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I’m surprised. Honestly.
[*]Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: University of Alabama, Auburn, Tulane, Dartmouth. Still waiting: Rice, Brown, Vandy.

Thanks for responding, Daddio. I suspect even if my child got in off the waitlist, there wouldn’t be any merit aid, and in that case, I’m pushing for Wash U. If this is really about yield, and not something else we are missing, I don’t want to give a substantial amount of our income and savings to a place with the kind of institutional policy that turns away very qualified students to improve their statistics. We’ll deal with the family situation. My wife was very against a college decision based on her health, so perhaps this is for the best. St. Louis isn’t too much farther away.

waitlisted ACT 34, GPA 3.96 (UW), SAT II: math 800, chem 790, bio 790; no bad feeling at all, as my son does not care now

@StLoumom, I copied your comment from the RD over here. Even though there are no stats, this is still very relevant. Case has shot themselves in the foot IMHO.
What’s great that is going on in our house…my very high stats senior d who had visited, interviewed and wrote essays for scholarships was waitlisted. And now my sophomore d has received several pieces of mail from Case. Ha ha, she won’t be applying.
