So, since applications have been sent away and all that is left for people to do is sit in fear and wait for a big (or small) envelope to come in the mail, I have noticed several of these "can i get in" or "what are my chances" type threads come up.

And people, including myself, say what we think about your stats, and then regardless of what is said, you still have to wait for that envelope.

Here's the thing--not one person on here is on the admissions committee.

All we can tell you here is whether or not your stats match up with those of the averages of last years class. So if someone says you are a "shoe-in" or a "match", take it with a grain of salt. Similarly, if someone says it is a long shot or unlikely, don't lose all hope.

So, what are those stats, you ask? Well, last year's class had an average unweighted gpa of 3.9 and SAT I's that hovered around the 1400's. They held leadership positions in/founded extra curricular activities and demonstrated that they performed some community service.

A word about the essays and the recs:
-EVERYONE HAS GOOD RECS. I have several friends in the admissions office who talk about what a waste the recs are. If someone is willing to agree to take the time to write you a rec, it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that they are doing it just for the chance to smear your name in the mud. 99.9% of recs are positive.

-It's a similar story with the essays. Almost everyone's essays are mediocre to somewhat good. But let's face it, how interesting can an essay about what a wonderful and amazing person you are really be? Especially when you have red a few thousand other essays that say basically the same thing. They just aren't, so get over it.

So, what I guess I am really trying to say is, nobody on these boards can admit you to USC, so just try to stop worrying and eventually you will find out from the only people who can admit you. And at that point, these boards become a whole lot more useful--for sharing info on classes and dorms and the like. Until then, just take a breath, and enjoy your final year in high school.
