Okay so I'm signing up for classes for my junior year of high school soon and I don't really know what to take. I'm thinking of taking three AP classes but I'm kinda nervous about it because it'll be my first time taking AP classes since my school doesn't offer them until junior year. Here are the classes I've taken last year and the ones I'm taking now:

9th grade:
Adv World History I
Adv English 9
Adv Biology
Geometry
Latin I
Fine Arts I
PE/Health
Study Hall

10th grade (now):
Adv World History II
Adv English 10
Oceanography
Algebra II
Latin II
Photography
Drivers Ed/PE
Study Hall

The advanced classes at my school are pretty easy and I got all A's last year and have all A's so far this year

Here are the classes I'm thinking about taking:

11th grade:
AP US History
AP Language and Composition
AP Environmental Science
Adv Chemistry
Precalculus
Latin III
Economics
Study Hall

12th grade:
Government
AP Literature and Composition
Physics
AP Biology
AP Calculus
Latin IV

As far as junior year I'm just worried about the workload. I don't want to completely sacrifice my social life and free time but I really wanna push myself to take these classes. I don't have many extra curriculars, just volunteering at a few places and I might decide to get a job. So I just wanna know what your experience is with these classes and if you think I can handle the workload. Also, would this schedule look good for college as far as class rigor? And any suggestions for my first year dealing with AP classes?

(by the way, I'm hoping to work with animals/the environment career wise so I'll probably major in biology or zoology in college)

As a junior I’m taking AP ES, USH, Chem, and Lit, as well as precalc/calc, French IV, and electives, so a schedule fairly similar to your planned one. It’s a lot of work, for sure. It is manageable, though.

For dealing with AP classes, just hope that your teachers are great, like my first two (Euro, Stat) last year were. But be warned, AP USH recently changed the MC format, and it may not be something that you’re used to, with all of the MCs being based on documents. And you really need a good Enviro teacher unless you want to spend a lot of time outside of class learning. (My teacher just reads the slides basically so it’s quite rough!)

But by looking at your previous classes, it seems like you should be able to handle these classes. Though, I would definitely go talk to guidance about your choices, as well as students in those classes at your school to see what their workload is like, as they are really the only ones who can tell you how much time they spend on HW a night.

I honestly wish people would stop posting their schedule and “Which AP Classes” threads. The answers are always the same and it’s based on you. Do you think you can handle it? If you want to know how hard they are then look them up! There are sooo many people similar to you that you could easily find your answer. In the end, it’s always your decision. If you can handle it then take it.

Only your GC can answer that question, since s/he is the one filling out the Secondary School Report and rating your class rigor. Many of us can guess, but it is impossible to do so without knowing the context of your school’s offerings.

I took 3 APs sophomore year. I don’t think it was that bad. I’ve never taken environmental science, so I don’t know the rigor for that class, but I just know that Lang for me was just a lot of reading and and social studies classes always give the most work. I think you’ll be fine if you schedule your homework accordingly

Some AP classes are harder than others. From my experience, AP social studies classes are the worst workload-wise because of the large amount of content you have to memorize. Everything else is more skill-based. Having 3 AP classes last year with APUSH was more work than now with 4 AP classes and a dual enrollment class.

If you’re a good reader/writer AP Lang and APUSH should have manageable, albeit heavy workloads (especially the latter). I don’t know anything about APES as my school doesn’t offer it, but from what I read on CC it’s considered the “easiest” AP science class (which is an oxymoron if you ask me), so I think you’ll be okay.

Honestly, it’s up to you in the end and what you feel comfortable doing. Good luck!
