Three Great Choices!

Hey thanks for the advice! I am OOS for both of them, heres rough estimates of COA:
Tufts- 61,300
UC Berkeley- 55k
UMich- 40- 45k with my scholarship, maybe cheaper if I live off campus

Money really isn’t too big of an issue for me, but obviously I want to get the best bang for my buck.

I have now visited all three, and here’s what I think:
Umich- PROS: great sports, nightlife, ross is a good program, great quality of education, small class sizes, lots of time with professors, def academically easier than my other options, ross has great academic recognition, very very good east coast BB placement, best night life/social life CONS: I honestly dislike the campus a lot, student body seems spotty in quality, have to apply to ross (but I think I could be competitive), a little bit too big for me, michigan weather, some of the rooms/facilities seem very old and unkempt

Tufts PROS: great campus, great student body, very good quality of education, nice location, good flexibility and variety of courses, nice new classrooms and facillities, world class IR program (another field I am interested in) CONS: Poor name recognition, no business program, limited on campus recruiting as compared to my other options, competition from harvard mit etc for boston area internships, academically rigorous, weak career services, poor nightlife on campus

UC Berkeley PROS: name recognition, Very prestigious in nearly every field, absolutely beautiful campus, motivated and intelligent student body, great on campus recruiting, california weather, newer facilities, access to silicon valley CONS: Very poor quality of education (700 person intro classes, discussion sections taught by seniors, limited access to professors), highly competitive (esp for haas), admission to haas may be a reach, aura of arrogance and ego around some members of student body, difficult classes, limited east coast placement

I’m really not sure what to do, all of these schools have definite pros and cons. I can’t see myself being 100% happy and without regrets at any of them at this point!

bump 10char

It sounds like UCB is the best choice.

Really? I was just about to cross it off my list. I’ll have to look at it again.

Any new opinions?

Are the intro classes at UMichigan and UCB that much different? Also I seriously question whether the student body is very arrogant. Maybe a few are, but of the students I know that chose Berkeley over more selective privates, they brag that there’s no air of elitism, probably owing to the extreme economic diversity found at the school.

"‘So the general feeling I’m getting is that Tufts is out of the question? Thats disappointing since I love Tuft’s campus and culture.’

that’s telling me where you’d really like to be. Worth your while to go over to the Tufts CC forum and ask there about recent recruitment and placement of grads."

I really agree with this. It’s not like Tufts is a step down or anything, just a different path. I would go for the school where you feel like you would thrive socially and have the best experience since all three are clearly great options.
