Three Quesitions

I noticed the UCSB acceptance letter made the major that I applied for sound very set in stone. How hard is it to change my major once I get to UCSB? I am loving the major I applied for, but it would be nice to know that I have the option of changing my it should my interests change in a couple years.

I still don’t hear from other colleges until april 1st, and then I will be spending a week or two deciding where I should go. How hard will it be to get into the Santa Catalina (Francisco Torres) then?

I know the Middle East Studies program at SB is one of the best, and I was wondering if anyone who is majoring in it or knows someone that is majoring in it could tell me about it – how practical it is as far as finding a job related to it after college, how good the professors of the classes are, etc.

Thanks for the help, and congrats to all those who got in. Sorry to those who didn’t, and I am sure you will get in somewhere where you will end up being be just as happy.

The lady at the UCSB reception earlier this month, (for me, it was yesterday) made it known to us that they will make it as smooth as possible to switch majors. I believe she said the average UCSB student switch majors 2.5 times! Yeah lol. But of course, applying to, let’s say, linguistics and trying to switch to engineering might be different because you are switching schools but other than that, switching majors is not a problem with them. So yes, you will definitely have the option to switch.

never heard of the school sorry.

not a student there :)

Sorry, Francisco Torres is a residence hall. So I also have two more questions:

I hear they only have room for one in four students to live in dorms. Is this true? Is it really hard to get in (do you have to apply early)?

What is the difference between a residence hall and a dorm?

i dont think im majoring in mid east studies, but i am middle eastern in a way(northeastern african), so i give u props for studying that haha

santa catalina is a good choice, but early is like may 1st, cuz the the rsidence form is due like June 1st or something.. dont rush it
it is my first choice i think. its a cool dorm

a residence hall is a dorm.

and most freshmen live in the dorms, then after freshman year, most people go live in isla vista, the adjacent off campus community
