Three scholarship program interviews at three schools... all on the same days.

I was invited for an interview at Southern Methodist University for a possible full ride, Emory Scholars at Oxford, and UMiami Stamps and Singer Scholarships.

SMU picks 60 students and offers about 25-30 a full ride.

Emory picked 300-400 students out of 6700 (5-6% invited for interviews). I can’t find information about the number of scholarships they actually give. They do offer full rides, though.

I can’t find any numbers about UMiami’s program on their website. Stamps is a full ride award.

The rub?

All the interviews are on the same weekend. Which should I choose?

Uuuughhh you think these places do this type of thing on purpose?

Which school do you like the best? What fits you best? I would personally choose between SMU or Emory but that’s just me. This is a personal decision that you’d also have to talk about with your parents.

I very much doubt if it’s intentional, however, I am sure that universities are driven by the same overriding schedules, which probably results in this calendar conflict.

Stamps is a really big deal scholarship. I guess you need to look at each one individually. At some schools you have to be there to be considered. Maybe one of the others would work with you. If money really matters, go with one with best return (everyone who attends gets at least X scholarship). You need to make some calls and find out all the details.

I don’t think they do it on purpose. These 3 schools are not anywhere near each other and colleges can’t avoid all conflicts. I would bet that they coordinate these dates with other competitions for schools in same state.

They’re all southern. There may be a decent amount of overlap in cross-admits.

I believe that Emory has 100 Emory Scholars and 30 Oxford Scholars (or something like that). Oxford Scholars start out at Oxford College, of course.

I say go to the interview of the school you want the most.

Wow! How did you manage to get all of those opportunities?

I would do SMU. You have a better chance at getting it.

@CaliCash‌ I applied to places that I heard gave good merit and crossed my fingers!

Either Stamps if you think you’re competitive (it’s a big deal award) or Emory (much better university than SMU). But that’s me… go to the school you like best.
Don’t forget to come back here to post your decision… and then the results!
