Does anyone use Thunderbird for email, and if so, did anyone figure out how to set up the UCSD webmail to work in it? After about an hour of messing around I am kinda under the impression they want to force us to go to their website to check our mail...

I got it to work in Outlook... it was pretty easy. Just input the mail server (which is a POP3) as the mail server you're assigned to (mine is sdcc15.ucsd.edu) and your outgoing as smtp.ucsd.edu and then put in your logon info as your username and password and it should work. Worked for me!

Meh, forwarding your SD email to another email ftw

any way to use it as an IMAP account?

I use thunderbird on PC, but am currently using OS X Mail.

It's really easy to set up... Set up a POP Email account, and for the incoming (POP) server, put your ucsd server.. mine is ieng9.ucsd.edu.
For username, put the first part of your email; ex. myname@ucsd.edu would have username myname.
Enter your password.

For Outgoing mail (SMTP) you cannot use UCSD's from your house. It only allows campus IP's unless you fill out some request. I just used my ISP's SMTP server (mine is smtp-server.san.rr.com). Configure this like your other Thunderbird account is configured.
