I posted this on another board too but I really need the answer to this :( so here it is again haha

I just bought a new TI-84 Plus silver edition for college this fall since I plan on giving my old TI-84 Plus to my little sister, but I have one problem. On my old TI-84 Plus, when I have a long expression/entry on the home screen that's over one line, it automatically continues the entry on the next line, making it easy for viewing. However, on my new silver edition calculator, the entry just keeps going off to the right and off the screen, and I'd have to scroll all the way back to see the beginning of the entry, which makes it inconvenient to catch any mistakes. It also does this for Y= expressions...

Does anyone know how to change this so that the long entries continue on the next line?

i updated the operating system on my ti84, and it does the same thing. I believe you are stuck with it…dont worry, ull get use to it!

I have a question of my own regarding calculators. What calculator should i buy? Im giving my ti 84 plus to my brother anyways. I’m premed and Im gonna be majoring in bio and perhaps a double major in chem, econ, or psych. I may take multivariable calc next year. Would a TI 89 be worth it? Are there tests where the ti 84 is allowed, but the 89 is not? Any input would be appreciated!

My high school made me buy the 89 and well…it’s amazing. It does calc. For you. And a bunch of other really convenient things but idk if NU allows you to use it.

Thanks smarty99~ I also emailed the TI guys and he gave me the previous OS to downgrade haha this will be the first time I ever downgraded anything hahaha interesting ><

ya i’ve used a ti89 before, and i know its simply AMAZING! however, i want to make sure NU allows me to use it and having a ti89 won’t be a disadvantage on tests compared to ti84s, if its not allowed. any current NU students input would be much appreciated!

heya all…still wondering about the ti89! anyone know of professors that object to students using ti89 on tests, but allow the 84? im not sure which one to purchase. i am in love w/ the 89 at the moment :P

You’ll either be allowed any sort of calculator, or a basic scientific calculator only. For those classes that allow graphing calculators on tests, the professors/TAs often reserve the right to check/clear your calculator at any time, in case you’re using your calculator to store test material.

oh yeah, the 89 has saved my ass on many an engineering/chem test when I was running out of time and just plugged a long equation into my calculator and used the solve function. :)

For oceanangel, I just found a way to make all the numbers go to the next line and not keep going to the right on the same line. All you have to do is click the “MODE” button next to the “2ND” button. Next, scroll all the way down until you get to the second page or you can just click the “up arrow” so it will be faster. Once you are in the second page, if the “MATHPRINT” option is highlighted, go next to it where it says “CLASSIC” and push the “ENTER” button on the bottom right corner of the calculator and make sure that this option is selected and click “CLEAR”. Now the numbers should go to the next line by themselves. When the “MATHPRINT” option is selected, it will show everything you plug in like in a textbook and the “CLASSIC” option is so it can show the original way. I hope this helped you.

i’m a freshman here, and so far i haven’t used my calculator at all. i used a ti-83 throughout middle and high school, then bought a ti-89 for northwestern. so far, i wouldn’t recommend getting a new calculator, just because you don’t have the time to figure it out
