I'm a freshmen currently...I'm about to take Math Analysis (Pre-Calc) next year, and I was wondering if this product will do. Or should I just go witht the TI-83+,TI-84 Silver editon, I'm trying to decide. What do you personally recommend?

either get silver edition or TI-89 86 is indeed a waste

Since you'll probably take AP Calculus as a junior, you should get the TI-89.

TI 89 titanium!!!

I done a bit of research, and it seems the TI-86 and T-84 Silver editon, share many common features...the TI-86 apparantly has a higher screen resolution and more capabilities.

get the 84+.

TI-86 is confusing, and worthless. You will have a hard time in class trying to figure out how to do matrices, etc. etc. The buttons are in strange places, and you'll have a crazy hard time.

I recommend the 84+, but I would have to say get an 89 if you can!

i would say go with a regular 83 or 84+ b/c most of your teachers are going to be using that kind (so they'll teach you how to use it rather than you having to read through the thick manual)
im taking ap calc this year and my 83+ is fine. it kinda forces you to learn how to do things by hand rather than relying on the calc all the time. haha but that's just my opinion

I was in love with the TI-86, but why is it so bad?

It's just confusing; I've tried using my friend's 86 but it's just a pain. I love my 84 Silver.

get an 89, even if you can do stuff with an 83, you're ALLOWED to use the 89 on the test, so why wouldn't you no matter how confident of your answers yuo are? i love my 89. i can do everything on, OR off it. its worth it.

yea... but then there's dependency on the calculator, dude, just keep your 83... it'll pay off in the long run

I have definately changed my mind, I'm trying to decide between the TI-84+ now, anyone recommend it?

the 84+ is a great calculator, but as others have said the ti-89 has a lot more capabilities... although i echo one of the previous posters in i'll probably be learning more because i'm forced to use actually do the problems instead of punching it in my calculator

TI-89. I have had both an 86 and 89, and the 89 is much better. It's definitely worth the money.

yes... but all of those who have the 89/89+ have come to learn things through mashing buttons, even simple functions like taking derivatives... or basic integrals... do urself a favor in the long run, just stick with the 83 ;)

89--->awesome

Let's be frank here anyways: you're never going to have to integrals in the real world. Once you learn the basics and understand it, you'll be set.

yeah... i say go for the 89

I use both an 89 and an 83+. I'm more comfortable on the 83 for simple number crunching, but the 89 does so much more for calculus. The other upside of the 89 is that it almost eliminates the charts of critical values for stats. There are many programs on the 89 that the 83 just doesn't have.

the 83 is the better statistics calculator... u don't need critical values for that either*
