ti 89 question, please help!

so i'm having a problem with the differentiation function and integrating function on my ti 89. online, it says that to differentiate on the ti 89, i must type "d(function, variable, order)." however, whenever i use this command, i get a numerical value as opposed to a new function. i have the same problem when trying to calculate an indefinite integral with the integration function - i get a number instead of a function. thanks in advance for any help!

does that help you?

You probably have values stored for your variables... you just need to clear them. I forget which one, but it's like F7 or something-- one of the menus is called "Cleanup", and then go to Clear Variables, a-z.

Yup, thats probably what it is. Just go to like F3 or something and scroll to the right until you see "Cleanup", and then you go to Clear Variables, a-z.
Hope that works. :)

clearing the variables worked. thanks for the help!

yeah, since you are gonna be doing that often, save any constant like in physics or chem as "two variable names". For example, make epsilon nought eo as opposed to e b/c e would get cleared.
