So in cases where the 89 is banned, the 84 is usually banned as well? That would remove a lot of the incentive to get another 84 instead.

<p>Tough to say. There are a lot of places where you can use an 84 but an 89. There are no places where you can use an 89 but not an 84. From what I’ve heard, the 89 is almost always banned even if an 84 isn’t, but YMMV.</p>

<p>I should add that having a calculator “to check work” isn’t very useful in college classes when you can check the answers to most problems in the back of the book or the optional solutions manual.</p>
