I am wondering whether I should upgrade from my TI-83 to the TI-Nspire CX CAS? I'm currently in Pre-Calc and plan to take SAT II Math Level II. Would the calculator help a lot on the test and in class? In other words, would it be worth the purchase?

i guarantee you will never need above a ti-83 in school.

It would greatly speed your calculations for SATIIs, yes.
If you’re going into Calc, I’d suggest getting one, too. The ability to check your work when doing problems is a godsend.
If you’re planning on going into a STEM field, I’d suggest getting one. Other than the above, it probably isn’t worth the cost.
Also, TI’s seems to want to phase out the old calcs (the TI-XXs), since they really haven’t had a huge hardware update since the early 2000s, and tech’s advanced a lot since then.

The TI CX CAS is expensive.

That being said, if it’s within reasonable means of your family and you want to do very well on the SAT II and the Calc AP, you would do well to get it.

It can straight up solve any equation you type into it, instantly evaluate limits, derivative, integrals, etc. If you do decide to get it, make sure that you get it well before your test date so you can get familiar with it.

Of course, plenty of students take these exams with a simpler graphing calculator. So it’s really up to you.

I have it, and it’s fantastic. However, I wouldn’t advice buying it unless you plan on majoring in math; I mean, it’s fancy, but you’ll never NEED it. Unless you’re taking AP stats, in which case, you should DEFINITELY buy it.

I was actually planning to take an online AP Stats course. I don’t think money will be that much of a problem, I have plenty stashed up and so do my parents.
