TI-Nspire with Touchpad or CX?

I will be taking the ACT for the first time in September. I have always used my beloved ti-89 (for school and the SAT), so when I heard that it is prohibited on the ACT, I was quite disappointed.

However, when I came across the TI-Nspire with Touchpad and the TI-Nspire CX, I was enthralled. Would either of these calculators be ideal for the ACT? And if so, which one would you recommend? Or would you recommend some other calculator?

Thanks!

I’m sure both would be permitted. Personally I recommend the TI-83 or TI-84. I’ve had bad experiences with the Nspire brand.

Could you elaborate on your bad experience please?

I had the original Nspire model. The device’s ram often reset and I would lose all my programs in a jiffy. The device was also a bit “hefty” and the keypad didn’t seem to fit well. However, I was using the Ti-84+ keypad. I eventually bought a replacement keypad but within 6 months the problem started happening again.

Versus the 84/89, everything is easier to read on the Nspire’s higher-res display. Matrices in particular come to mind. I’ve never had trouble with mine (Nspire w/touchpad non-CAS). TI updates their software regularly, too.

You really don’t need a calculator with a color screen to ace the math section. You don’t even need a graphing calculator. I scored a 35 with a TI-36X. My advice? Buy a used Nspire w/touchpad and be done with it.
