Tier system?

I know that Berkeley falls into the top tier of the UC system, but is it #1 or #2?? Also, is Berkeley harder to get into than UCLA?

Now there is a question you won't get a satisfactory answer to. Berkeley and UCLA both have approximately the same admission rates and top ranked departments. People get accepted to both, one or the other. It's a matter of personal fit. Many norcal people go to UCLA while many socal people go to Berkeley for a change of place. Personally I think Berkeley edges out UCLA but I probably am biased.

Just from what i've experienced, it seems like Berkeley wins the prestige-race because I've heard the name Berkeley much more than I've heard UC LA. Of course, I am from NorCal.

Stats-wise, sure, they'll be the same when it comes to admissions (I think LA actually edges out Cal this past year by 10 points on the SAT). But Cal is easily #1.

On a related note, out of my school district, about 15 people got into UCLA and 3 into Cal.

In terms of school quality overall, Cal is the clear winner. However, UCLA isn't a lightweight, and going to either one is certainly going to allow you to succeed.

As far as difficulty of admissions go, they're pretty much the same: Hard.

Great! That really helped. Thanks all!

How's applications going BabyBlue?

I've very rarely heard that Berkeley is #2 and UCLA is #1, and those who say that usually attend UCLA. Berkeley is "harder" to get into than UCLA in that its admissions rate is slightly lower (even though there are less applications) and the entering freshmen's stats are slightly higher, but there are plenty of people who were rejected from UCLA and admitted into Berkeley, so you never know.
