Tigertown Bound!

I had the number from the application. Also it was on the letter my daughter got in July waiving the application fee.

@Themommymommy Hope I didn’t oversell . The atmosphere is electric here with the Florida game tomorrow. The school certainly has a lot of spirit. It does get cold here, with occasional snow, so don’t wait too long. Although I’m sure that they’ll have an accepted student weekend. I went to their Fall Blitz and the Honors College new dorms are going up and are on schedule . They are right near the stadium. Lots going on right now . Congrats .

@dallas14 thanks! I will have my daughter try her application number and see if that works. @carolinamom2boys we live in a state that regularly reaches 30 below during the winter. I suspect anything South Carolina can dish out weatherwise will seem mild by comparison!

@carolinamom2boys , same here, neck and neck with one other that he should get in for much less, but if the bottom line was even he would choose Clemson for sure. We went to a Blitz day and it really impressed him. I think it is probably his strongest academic choice too, he did not want to mess around with reach schools, just state flagships who offered good OOS merit scholarships for his stats.

Since we are looking to relocate to a warmer locale this summer after HS graduation anyway, we have to see what his scholarship offer converts to if we qualify for in state tuition after the first year. We have to weigh that as well as the fact that Clemson has an accelerated BS/MS program in engineering that could shave a year off the total cost. The other school does not have that.

How long have you lived in the Greenville area? I was so impressed with the area, I grew up around lots of trees and hills, am very tired of living in the KS flatlands where most trees in the area were planted by developers. Hopefully his big brother gets into a reasonably priced PT doctoral program and live on his own so my wife and I can move where we want, and perhaps help out son 2 by moving to SC.

Also, sorry your son is having to wait, it sounds like he is a no brainer for some money since they already told him he would get in a year ago.

I think Clemson keeps your tuition status as what it is when you start, but I’m not sure. In terms of PT schools, MUSC in Charleston has a good program. We moved to the upstate in 1999 from Charleston area. Greenville has become quite a nice little city. We have minor league baseball and hockey . Good cost of living . Can be to the mountains of NC in 1-2 hrs, Atlanta 3 hrs, Charlotte 2 hrs and Charleston and the beach in 4 hrs. We do have 4 seasons here with occasional snow.

The scholarship letter suggests the scholarship is subject to change if your residency status changes. That implies your residency status can change, but we will be confirming with admissions.

Son 1 applied to MUSC and USC PT programs (and a lot of others, PT acceptance rate nationwide is 15%).

Wife would like to be by the ocean but we told her about Greenville after our campus visit and trip to the NC waterfalls and she is interested. What a great location and 2-4 hours from so many things like you said.

Does your son have an intended major?

@Gr8One My son wants to major in computer science. I am an Occupational Therapist and my experience with USC and MUSC PT students is that MUSC students are well prepared. The cost of living difference between the coast and the upstate is fairly significant. Our house in a suburb of Greenville would be probably at least $100,000 more on the coast. If your wife likes to be around water , you may want to look at Lake Keowee, Lake Hartwell or Lake Jocasee.

Thanks again for the info.

“Will an official bill be sent out later this year?”

Yes. To those who didn’t get the letter yet but did access the site, it is probably unlikely Clemson is going to be able to give you any idea of financial aid because they do not know both your family’s financial situation nor the scholarship needs of the incoming class. We’ll all likely receive a much better estimate along with everyone else sometime in the spring.

The money that Clemson puts in these levels are standard (pre-determined) awards. If you are in-state and qualify for the Palmetto Fellows program, you are told that you would receive between $9,200 (which is just the Fellows scholarship and Clemson’s tack-on for all Fellows) and $15,000 (which is high test score, high rank, and STEM major). I’m personally expecting around 11-12k from the booklets Clemson sent me. I would expect 9.2k-15k too if you’re a Palmetto Fellow. They offered me 1,000 a year initially but said that if the Fellows application went through they’d kick it up. This isn’t taking into account a LOT of other restricted scholarships that all timely freshmen are considered for.

If you’re in-state and haven’t gotten a letter, I would check and see if you or your child is eligible and has been invited to apply for Palmetto Fellows. I know a couple people who were also provisionally accepted but haven’t heard anything. The in-state letter talks a lot about Palmetto Fellows which leads me to believe Clemson is trying to lure those who are applying to the Fellows scholarship to their school (the first letter is always the most special). I wouldn’t worry if you did not receive the letter, it will likely come with everyone else’s at least. If you’re OOS, I assume Clemson is taking all the high-score, high-rank, STEM-prospective people and offering them money so they stay on their radar. I could be wrong though.

As for Greenville, I’ve lived here all my life. It’s a really great place and has a lot of stuff that can appeal to everyone. Graduates from Clemson can especially look forward to employment in big cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, Knoxville, and Charleston. A lot of the northern population is moving south or west so Greenville will keep growing. Very good suburban life. BMW built its only US assembly plant down the road from Greenville, so there are plenty of opportunities so long as other businesses keep moving into the area. It’s funny because if you went back twenty or thirty years, downtown was desolate and the only restaurant worth going to was a hot dog place lol.

That seems like a good theory about why some letters are going out.

Greenville had me at “Swamp Rabbit Trail”. Unfortunately I suspect son ends up with no scholarship at all if we relocate to SC and establish residency, we probably just pay in state tuition after the first year.

Finally got the letter and the scholarship award was 15/yr just like the price calculator predicted. This makes the price of Clemson comparable to the University of Texas after I factor in Clemson’s lower cost of living. Anyone know what sorority dues run? I paid $4,000 in dues alone for my older daughter’s first year at UT.

Congrats @Dallas14 .

@Clairea -have you received a provisional acceptance for Fall 2016? If so, do you know if acceptance letters for Early Action are beginning to be sent out?

@Mauriciog -are you provisionally accepted for the Fall 2016 semester? Did you apply Early Action? Do you know if those acceptance letters are being sent out now?

@blueeagle16, my son received a provisional acceptance last spring. My understanding is that Clemson does not have EA/ED, but that students who are offered some of the larger merit scholarships are sometimes notified earlier than Feb. 15.

DS16 got his official letter today. So excited!

Congratulations to all that have been accepted already! I thought that notifications were not going out until Feb. My son also received provisional acceptance in the spring so this will be a nice surprise for him if he is notified early as well. It makes sense though that Clemson would be notifying some of high stats applicants earlier as they will be receiving many other merit offers before February so they can now compare.

Accepted for nursing!
Stats:
SAT: 1380 (2 part)
GPA: 4.0 uw 4.997 w
6 AP’s
300 volunteer hours

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! I can’t wait to be a tiger!

@blueeagle16 clemson doesn’t offer an early action they have a single application deadline for everyone. Even when I emailed them asking if provisionally accepted students received their letters earlier they said that everyone gets them in February which obviously isn’t true.
You’re not gonna find any information on this but I’m assuming that provisionally accepted students are accepted on a rolling basis and everyone else waits till February unless you receive another type of major scholarship offer.
