tight situation- need help

Im a freshman at SJSU (semester system) right now and going to start attending de anza (quarter) this summer and next year to transfer
problem is, i don't have many courses taken that would fufill IGETC so far.

So i need three courses in A3 arts & humanities, one course in A4 Social and Behavior Sciences and two in A5 Physical and Biological Sciences.
That adds up to 6 , possibly 7courses to fufill IGETC; which can be done within a year.

But I also have to do pre-requisites for UCLA biz-econ/econ mainly (my main choice, but would fulfill most other schools' pre-reqs along with TAG for Santa Clara Univ.)

So that means I still need to take Calc 1a/1b, econ 1a/1b, financial and managerial accounting (assist says i need 1A and 1B of fin. acct. O_o)
Thats another 6 courses I need to take

Total of 12, possibly 13 courses I need to take in 3 quarters (Fall, winter, spring) and 1 summer. Is this going to be possible? Usually people take 3 courses for quarter system i heard, I'm not used to going to class everyday (from semester system) so I'm not sure if I should handle 4
Or am I just stressin too much

4 classes is definitely doable (i'm doing 4 and it's a breeze), but be careful not to jam your schedule with all econ classes

thanks for the input
also one of the sciences is a lab - so thats like having another class
14 courses O_O
Can any1 confirm if i need both financial accounting 1a and 1b to fufill the pre-reqs for a lot of business majors. on assist.org from de anza to ucla it said 1a&1b :(

i actually thought you had to go through 3 acct. classes, managerial acct. is 1C.

ya fin. acct 1a 1b and mang acct 1c
i didnt know fin acct was 2 parts though :[

Would I have a chance at doing TAP considering I have that many classes to do left for IGETC/pre-reqs; even should i?
I'm also going to apply to UCB, ucsd, scu, USC, UCLA, and maybe some OOS o nes
UCLA would be the only one that would benefit from TAP
I'll probably end with a 3.7-3.8 GPA

Depends on what doing TAP at your cc means. At mine it just meant honors courses in place of regular courses (and that just meant an extra presentation or paper or something like that). I would hope that other UCs at least notice honors courses, even if they don't have a program for them in place.

Why don't you start in spring? Less units you have from csu the better.

It totally depends on what you're comfortable with. If you normally do 5-6 courses then it'll be a breeze, 3-4 courses you might be overloaded if TAP certification isn't super-easy.

Suggestion: do a bio lab + class + easy class over the summer.

Being in honors/PTK helps everywhere, even considering its dubious effectiveness.

TAP is usually the same at all schools
but it might have a negative affect on my GPA since I am having to cram courses in; plus I'd have to take it at Foothill and looking, they don't have many honors courses available- you kind of have to wait each quarter to see whats being offered and I don't have time for that.

Can't start in spring - starts monday and I am already in 5 courses at SJSU.

The thing is I am in a semester system right now, so changing to quarter (going to class everyday instead of every other day) is not familiar with me so I'm not sure how many I could do.
Definitely taking courses over the summer.

Whats the lowest GPA people have gotten in to UCLA econ without TAP?

You should waiy until late April/early May when people get admission decisions, you know. =</p>

Last years admission results poses some relevance too if you know them :p and I don't really lol

and i read in the other thread you said "I did TAP in less than a year, along with with a requisite-intensive major and cross-enrollment."
I read you reply to how, but was confused; can you possibly clarify as I would need to be doing THE SAME. And you said AP units did not count for these classes you said as well right?
Thanks :D

That's easy to explain. I had 25 semester units of college credit before entering CC this fall. I took all of the "wrong" AP classes and they didn't clear IGETC, or I wouldn't have to take more than 12~14 units a semester. But I just take courses since they're interesting, so it's my folly.

To be very specific, my bare bones fall/spring looks something like this
F/ Calculus III, Linear Algebra, 2 Honors
S/ 3 Honors, 1 IGETC

I wanted to take more honors classes first semester but my counselor wouldn't let me. Just to clarify, 4/5 honors classes for me were IGETC, although they weren't honors classes exactly, but classes along with seminars (better, but more time-consuming). So technically 6 IGETC classes and 5 honors seminars.

ah, how long were the honors courses? Foothill site is saying they are 4 hrs with 2 hr lab, when I believe the normal classes at de anza at 50 minutes O_o
Honors Program

Still not sure if tap is worth it for me as UCLA would be the only college benefiting from it (but it's a good benefit nonetheless); maybe you can tell me if you think it is looking at the list of schools I posted above with est. gpa
