how is this hall...is it a good assignment?

Often very social because of the small size and straight hall, central downhill location, but you have to walk up the hill to a lot of classes. Close to Dewick. Smallish rooms, esp. if you get an "L" like I did (Rooms 100, 200, etc. which were seemingly added as an afterthought judging by the fact that their number isn't in order in the layout of the hall). They're like a regular room, WITH A HUGE ****ING CORNER MISSING (they're still habitable though). One of the smallest dorms on campus; the common room doesn't have much to offer. But a good one to get.

Tilton, along with Houston, is one of the better all-freshmen choices. Like Jumbosox mentioned, you do not want the L-shaped rooms. Other than those, Tilton rooms are a decent size.

The pros: For a downhill dorm, the location is pretty great. Hodgdon and Dewick are closeby, making it very easy to utilize your freshman unlimited meal plan to its maximum potential--er, trickturn. It's a relatively small hall, so you'll get to know most of the people around you. Tilton residents tend to split by floors and become really tight. In Dewick, you'll often see a "cult" of T1-ers eating together. I think my favorite part about Tilton is the co-ed, single, lockable bathrooms. No other dorms aside from South and Bush have this. You can brush your teeth, shave, shower, change, pee without anyone walking in on you.

The cons: Because the bathrooms are co-ed, you'll often find the bathroom seats up, pee on the floor, toilets unflushed, and empty bottles of AXE in the shower stalls. For reasons I'll never understand, guys think this is the sanitary way to go.

In short, Tilton is a good assignment. Have fun!

how far is it from the gym and the athletic fields?

thank you for the detailed responses btw^^^^

It's pretty far from the gym and the fields near the gym, but not too far from the track and football field. The single (unisex) bathrooms are really great; an important pro about Tilton which slipped my mind. Having the whole room to yourself when showering is clutch.

The gym is on the other side of the hill. About a 10 minute walk.

Actually, my son enjoyed the L-shape hundred-level room - he had his own little alcove opposite a window!

Other Tilton thoughts - - bring a box-type fan, esp. if you're on the third or fourth floor...and soft luggage/bags store better than larger trunks in these smallish rooms.

My son loved being in Tilton, and Tufts in general. Good luck during the coming year!
