Can you register for classes that are back to back. For example, 9 to 10 and 10 to 11, or do you have to have an off hour in between. 9 to 10 then 11 to 12. Thanks.

yes, we run on "berkeley time" which means that an 8am class actually starts at 8:10

Thanks! That is so gonna redo my schedule. :D

so does berkeley time also make classes last 10 minutes more to compensate?

nope. classes are either 50 or 80 minutes (or 110 minutes... and so on), depending on the course and the times. There is never compensation.

caveat: Actually, there are a few professors who are anal about starting on the dot, but they are few and far between. Not something to worry about. Berkeley time is nice. And don't take classes back to back. It's pretty miserable.

i prefer classes back to back, actually. breaks seem like a huge waste of time. either you stay on campus and -try- to study or you walk back and forth between campus and your dorm/apt.

finaldistance.berkeley.edu to optimize your schedule

Just don't take a nine o'clock class at Dwinelle and a ten o'clock class at hearst mineing. You'll be one sweaty sucka!

And if you are gonna do all-day back-to-backs, try to schedule at least a 30 minute break so you can get your grub on.

Are you usually allowed to eat during classes?
