So PH 116 is M 4-6 and BIO 1AL Lec is M 5-6:30 and clash but I really want to take both in Spring. I am number 242 on the waitlist for PH 116 right now and I heard lecture is mandatory to pass the class.

So, Would I be fine never going to BIO 1AL Lec and just webcasting all the lectures instead so I can attend the PH 116 Lecs or do you actually take your midterms/lab exams for BIO 1AL during the 5-6:30 slot, meaning a time clash would not be advisable?

Your comments are greatly appreciated :)

You would be fine provided that you keep up with the webcast. However, I find it difficult to sit through one of Mike’s lectures online because they’re long and have periods of boringness to them. I guess if you have 85+ minutes to kill between monday and your lab time, go for it though. (Sometimes, your gsi may quiz you on lab lecture material)

so when do you take the actual tests for the class? outside of lab lecture? and what eactly is your grade comprised of for bio 1al?

I would NOT recommend skipping lab lecture. You will regret it. It will most likely hurt your grade. Just take PH 116 another semester, no big deal.

50 points for quizzes (lowest quiz out of 11 total quizzes dropped), 100 points for Lab Exam 1, 80 points for Lab Exam 2.

Lab Exam 1 is on cloning, genetics, etc and was on a Friday night this semester.
Lab Exam 2 is the lab practical that takes place during your last lab class.

Yeah I wouldn’t skip lecture if I were you. He throws so much info at you that it takes hours to watch a single webcast. Going to lecture forces you to take good notes and only write down important material, which is crucial for this class since there is simply WAY TOOO much info. Oh and I think lab exam 2 is worth 84 points.

You’re right, 84 points. Wish it wasn’t so many… :P
